Velika je pomutnja nastala kad je „Dawn“, pakistanski list na engleskom jeziku, javio da je vojska osigurala zemljište na jugozapadu zemlje kako bi navodno tamo sagradila novu vojna baza za zračne snage. Spekulira se o scenariju prema kojem bi baza zapravo služila američkoj vojsci, koja bi tako, i nakon povlačenja iz Afganistana, i ubuduće bila prisutna u regiji.

Stvar je postala toliko osjetljiva da je pakistanska vlada požurila kako bi demantirala glasine. „Potraga za bazom je možda želja (Amerikanaca, nap. ur.), ali ne dolazi u obzir da njima prepuštamo baze. Moramo voditi računa o vlastitim interesima“, rekao je šef diplomacije Šah Mehmud Kureši u jednom intervjuu.

Da nisu u pitanju puke glasine govori i posjet direktora CIA Williama J. Burnsa početkom lipnja. Prema pisanju medija, njegov dolazak u Islamabad ostao je bez konkretnih rezultata. Pakistanci su odlučni u tome da ne dozvole stacioniranje američke baze na svom tlu, pisali su mediji.

Stotine civila žrtve američkih dronova

„Američke baze se smatra udarom na pakistanski suverenitet“, kaže nam Thorsten Wojczewski s Kraljevskog koledža u Londonu, posebno jer u Pakistanu vlada antiameričko raspoloženje. „Uz to bi američke baze zaoštrile konflikt s islamskim fundamentalistima i terorističkim skupinama u Pakistanu, i imale negativan utjecaj na stabilnost zemlje“, kaže ovaj stručnjak za Aziju.

Pakistanci nisu bez razloga skeptični prema Sjedinjenim Državama. Prema britanskom „Uredu za istraživačko novinarstvo“ (BIJ), između 2008. i 2015. godine je u američkim udarima bespilotnim letjelicama u Pakistanu stradalo najmanje 424, a najviše 969 civila.

Može se pretpostaviti da bi Amerikanci iz Pakistana pokretali i napade dronovima u susjedni Afganistan. Prema BIJ, tamo je od 2015. do 2020. godine bilo 13.000 američkih napada dronovima. Navodno je stradalo oko devet stotina civila. Prema navodima Pentagona, prošle godine je u tim akcijama ubijeno dvadeset civila.

Letovi bi bili tajni

U Washingtonu se pribojavaju jačanja terorističkih grupa nakon povlačenja međunarodnih trupa iz Afganistana. Zapovjednik američkih snaga u tom dijelu sveta Kenneth McKenzie je u jednom intervjuu priznao da Pentagon radi na tome da održi „sposobnost za nastavak operacije“ protiv Al Kaide i „Islamske države”.

Wojczewski kaže da bi popuštanje Pakistana pred američkim zahtjevima teško opteretilo odnose s Iranom, ali prije svega s Kinom. „Kinesko rukovodstvo bi vojne baze u susjednoj zemlji shvatilo kao dio američke strategije suzbijanja“, kaže on, koristeći izraz „containment policy“. Tu politiku su Amerikanci primjenjivali u Hladnom ratu kako bi suzbili utjecaj Sovjetskog Saveza.

Nejasno je imaju li Amerikanci rezervnu varijantu, ako Pakistanci ostanu pri svom „ne“. Kako nam kaže Andrew Watkins iz Međunarodne krizne skupine, „u Washingtonu se intenzivno debatira“ o vojnoj nazočnosti u Pakistanu. Tu se ne misli na kopnene trupe. „Radi se o održanju sposobnosti da se vodi rat dronovima ili uobičajenom avijacijom“, pojašnjava on.

„Obzirom da je u Pakistanu to sporno, te operacije bi se izvodile u tajnosti – pod uvjetom da Islamabad uopće pristane. Većina nas bi o operacijama saznala tek godinama kasnije“, dodaje Watkins.

Velika je pomutnja nastala kad je „Dawn“, pakistanski list na engleskom jeziku, javio da je vojska osigurala zemljište na jugozapadu zemlje kako bi navodno tamo sagradila novu vojna baza za zračne snage. Spekulira se o scenariju prema kojem bi baza zapravo služila američkoj vojsci, koja bi tako, i nakon povlačenja iz Afganistana, i ubuduće bila prisutna u regiji.

Stvar je postala toliko osjetljiva da je pakistanska vlada požurila kako bi demantirala glasine. „Potraga za bazom je možda želja (Amerikanaca, nap. ur.), ali ne dolazi u obzir da njima prepuštamo baze. Moramo voditi računa o vlastitim interesima“, rekao je šef diplomacije Šah Mehmud Kureši u jednom intervjuu.

Da nisu u pitanju puke glasine govori i posjet direktora CIA Williama J. Burnsa početkom lipnja. Prema pisanju medija, njegov dolazak u Islamabad ostao je bez konkretnih rezultata. Pakistanci su odlučni u tome da ne dozvole stacioniranje američke baze na svom tlu, pisali su mediji.

Stotine civila žrtve američkih dronova

„Američke baze se smatra udarom na pakistanski suverenitet“, kaže nam Thorsten Wojczewski s Kraljevskog koledža u Londonu, posebno jer u Pakistanu vlada antiameričko raspoloženje. „Uz to bi američke baze zaoštrile konflikt s islamskim fundamentalistima i terorističkim skupinama u Pakistanu, i imale negativan utjecaj na stabilnost zemlje“, kaže ovaj stručnjak za Aziju.

Pakistanci nisu bez razloga skeptični prema Sjedinjenim Državama. Prema britanskom „Uredu za istraživačko novinarstvo“ (BIJ), između 2008. i 2015. godine je u američkim udarima bespilotnim letjelicama u Pakistanu stradalo najmanje 424, a najviše 969 civila.

Može se pretpostaviti da bi Amerikanci iz Pakistana pokretali i napade dronovima u susjedni Afganistan. Prema BIJ, tamo je od 2015. do 2020. godine bilo 13.000 američkih napada dronovima. Navodno je stradalo oko devet stotina civila. Prema navodima Pentagona, prošle godine je u tim akcijama ubijeno dvadeset civila.

Letovi bi bili tajni

U Washingtonu se pribojavaju jačanja terorističkih grupa nakon povlačenja međunarodnih trupa iz Afganistana. Zapovjednik američkih snaga u tom dijelu sveta Kenneth McKenzie je u jednom intervjuu priznao da Pentagon radi na tome da održi „sposobnost za nastavak operacije“ protiv Al Kaide i „Islamske države”.

Wojczewski kaže da bi popuštanje Pakistana pred američkim zahtjevima teško opteretilo odnose s Iranom, ali prije svega s Kinom. „Kinesko rukovodstvo bi vojne baze u susjednoj zemlji shvatilo kao dio američke strategije suzbijanja“, kaže on, koristeći izraz „containment policy“. Tu politiku su Amerikanci primjenjivali u Hladnom ratu kako bi suzbili utjecaj Sovjetskog Saveza.

Nejasno je imaju li Amerikanci rezervnu varijantu, ako Pakistanci ostanu pri svom „ne“. Kako nam kaže Andrew Watkins iz Međunarodne krizne skupine, „u Washingtonu se intenzivno debatira“ o vojnoj nazočnosti u Pakistanu. Tu se ne misli na kopnene trupe. „Radi se o održanju sposobnosti da se vodi rat dronovima ili uobičajenom avijacijom“, pojašnjava on.

„Obzirom da je u Pakistanu to sporno, te operacije bi se izvodile u tajnosti – pod uvjetom da Islamabad uopće pristane. Većina nas bi o operacijama saznala tek godinama kasnije“, dodaje Watkins.

Velika je pomutnja nastala kad je „Dawn“, pakistanski list na engleskom jeziku, javio da je vojska osigurala zemljište na jugozapadu zemlje kako bi navodno tamo sagradila novu vojna baza za zračne snage. Spekulira se o scenariju prema kojem bi baza zapravo služila američkoj vojsci, koja bi tako, i nakon povlačenja iz Afganistana, i ubuduće bila prisutna u regiji.

Stvar je postala toliko osjetljiva da je pakistanska vlada požurila kako bi demantirala glasine. „Potraga za bazom je možda želja (Amerikanaca, nap. ur.), ali ne dolazi u obzir da njima prepuštamo baze. Moramo voditi računa o vlastitim interesima“, rekao je šef diplomacije Šah Mehmud Kureši u jednom intervjuu.
