U pretposljednjem, 10. kolu 17. Pojedinačnog europskog prvenstva dogodio se završni čin tragičnog preokreta, jer je naš najbolji velemajstor Ivan Šarić, nakon što je prvu polovinu prvenstva završio na prvom mjestu, neočekivano pretrpio i treći poraz u finišu te se praktično oprostio od Svjetskog kupa.

Iako je vodio bijele figure protiv norveškog juniora Ariana Tarija, niti jednog trenutka nije uspio postići prednost, da bi nakon vremenske kontrole nerezonski forsirao i izgubio.

Utjehu nam je donio Mladen Palac koji je u divovskoj borbi kao crni uspio svladati jakog ruskog velemajstora Mihaila Kobaliju i sa 7 bodova došao vrlo blizu plasmana na Svjetski kup, na koji idu 23 prvoplasirana igrača.

Naime, uoči posljednjeg kola Palac je na diobi od 5. do 20. mjesta i najvjerojatnije mu je dovoljan i remi u posljednjoj partiji za plasman među 23 najbolja.

Vrlo blizu sličnom pothvatu bio je i Zdenko Kožul, ali u mnogo boljoj završnici nije uspio pronaći put ka pobjedi protiv Bjelorusa Sergeja Žigalka. Remizirao je i Ante Brkić, a Ante Šarić je pobjedom nešto popravio svoj nezavidan plasman. U derbiju kola Rus Ernesto Inarkijev mirno je remizirao sa svojim sunarodnjakom Aleksejem Goganovom i tako osigurao naslov europskog prvaka.

U pretposljednjem, 10. kolu 17. Pojedinačnog europskog prvenstva dogodio se završni čin tragičnog preokreta, jer je naš najbolji velemajstor Ivan Šarić, nakon što je prvu polovinu prvenstva završio na prvom mjestu, neočekivano pretrpio i treći poraz u finišu te se praktično oprostio od Svjetskog kupa.

Iako je vodio bijele figure protiv norveškog juniora Ariana Tarija, niti jednog trenutka nije uspio postići prednost, da bi nakon vremenske kontrole nerezonski forsirao i izgubio.

Utjehu nam je donio Mladen Palac koji je u divovskoj borbi kao crni uspio svladati jakog ruskog velemajstora Mihaila Kobaliju i sa 7 bodova došao vrlo blizu plasmana na Svjetski kup, na koji idu 23 prvoplasirana igrača.

Naime, uoči posljednjeg kola Palac je na diobi od 5. do 20. mjesta i najvjerojatnije mu je dovoljan i remi u posljednjoj partiji za plasman među 23 najbolja.

Vrlo blizu sličnom pothvatu bio je i Zdenko Kožul, ali u mnogo boljoj završnici nije uspio pronaći put ka pobjedi protiv Bjelorusa Sergeja Žigalka. Remizirao je i Ante Brkić, a Ante Šarić je pobjedom nešto popravio svoj nezavidan plasman. U derbiju kola Rus Ernesto Inarkijev mirno je remizirao sa svojim sunarodnjakom Aleksejem Goganovom i tako osigurao naslov europskog prvaka.

Inarkijev 8,5 bodova; Wojtaszek, Kovalenko i Goganov po 7,5; Palac, Navara, Jobava, Vallejo Pons, Hovhannissian, Nisipeanu, Dreev, Anton Guijarro, Dončenko, Ter Sahakian, Dubov, Piorun, Tari, Bortnyk, Stupak i Pašikian po 7 bodova; slijedi skupina od čak 22 igrača sa po 6,5 bodova u kojoj je od naših velemajstora samo Zdenko Kožul; Ivan Šarić ima 6, a Ante Brkić i Ante Šarić imaju po 5,5 bodova.
