Otišla je jedna od zadnjih istinskih legendi hrvatskog novinarstva - vječni Pero Zlatar, novinar uz kojeg su rasle i formirale se generacije mladih u Hrvatskoj ali i na nekadašnjim prostorima bivše Jugoslavije. Umro je, u 86. godini, od zatajenja srca, koje je do kraja kucalo za novinarstvo kakvog sve manje ima. Radio je do kraja, jer i sam je govorio da novinarstvo nema dobne granice ni rok trajanja.
Kad bi se tražila najzagrebačkija od svih zagrebačkih pjesama, sva je prilika da bi tu prestižnu titulu odnijela skladba "Zadnji fijaker“ iz 1963. godine, koju je pjevao Viki Glowatzky.
S druge strane, na nekom imaginarnom natječaju za najsplitskijeg od svih splitskih junaka, vjerojatno bi pobijedio Mali Marinko, dugovječni protagonist kolumne koja je desetljećima izlazila u "Slobodnoj Dalmaciji“. No, kakve veze imaju jedan pradavni šlager i ostarjeli novinski mulac?
Toliko izravne da izravnije ne mogu biti, jer im je autor isti. "Zadnji fijaker“ uglazbio je Stjepan Mihaljinec na stihove Drage Britvića i Pere Zlatara. Mali Marinko novinski je, pak, protagonist kojega je proslavio Miljenko Smoje, ali mu je pravi otac bio nitko drugo nego isti taj šjor Pero koji je rubriku začeo, osovio na noge, a onda je predao u ruke kolegi za kojeg je vjerovao da će bolje od njega znati pisati o splitskim balunjerima.
Pero Zlatar uspio je u naoko nemogućemu: da se i na sjeveru i na jugu "upiše“ u velike mitotvorce koji su svojim djelom stvorili identitet ili makar raširene predodžbe o tim sredinama. Uspio je u još mnogočemu. Kad se makar i ovlašno pregleda Zlatarova radna biografija čovjek teško može odoljeti iskušenju da se upita kako je, pobogu, taj čovjek stizao posvršavati sve svoje poslove.
U svojstvu urednika potpisao je cijeli niz listova koji su bili vrlo različitih profila, ali ih je sve ujedinjavala činjenica da su imali vrtoglavo visoke naklade. Kad ga je preuzeo, "Plavi vjesnik“ bio je relativno uspješan strip-zabavnik namijenjen mlađim uzrastima. Zlatar ga je pretvorio u obveznu lektiru svih tinejdžera s područja bivše Jugoslavije, gladnih priloga o omiljenim glazbenim vedetama druge polovice šezdesetih godina.

Dovoljno je reći da mu je naklada debelo premašivala (za ono vrijeme fantastičnih, a za ovo znanstvenofantastičnih) tristo tisuća primjeraka (!), te da je "Studio“ ranih sedamdesetih godina svojim čitateljima darivao namjenski snimljene i proizvedene gramofonske ploče na kojima su pjevali celebrityji od Miše Kovača naniže. Naravno, urednik Zlatar nije se bavio samo zabavnim tiskom, nego je utisnuo snažan pečat i u informativno-političkom novinarstvu, kao, recimo, urednik u "Vjesniku u srijedu“.
Premda je teško, vjerojatno i nemoguće, u povijesti hrvatskoga novinarstva pronaći uspješnijeg urednika od njega, stvar postaje zbilja fascinantna tek kad shvatimo da Zlatar po svojim afinitetima i vokaciji nikad nije htio biti urednik.
Kudikamo draže bilo mu je špartati bijelim svijetom i pisati. Srećom po njega, ali i po nas, koji smo mu bili zahvalna publika, obje svoje ambicije stigao je zadovoljiti: proputovao je sve kontinente i boravio u 180 zemalja. Koliko je, pak, tekstova donio sa svojih skitnji diljem globusa, neusporedivo je teže procijeniti.
Nema, međutim, nikakve sumnje da tu prebogatu građu nije uputno mjeriti u stranicama ili svescima, nego prije u paletama.
Kao što je bio visokotiražni novinski pisac i urednik, bio je i rado čitani publicist čiji su autorski interesi pokrivali široki raspon tema od estrade (knjige o Ivi Robiću i Ivici Šerfeziju) ili nogometa (libar o Dražanu Jerkoviću) sve do hard core politike (iznimno zapažena djela o Enveru Hoxhi i albanskoj verziji socijalizma, trotomni dokumentarni roman o Anti Paveliću...).
Kao da mu to nije dosta, stigao je biti i direktor Dinama, predsjednik Cibone... Da je poživio, tko zna, možda bi i kod nas stigao voditi neki sportski kolektiv, ionako je na Split bio oduvijek slab.
Pero Zlatar preminuo je u petak u 86. godini, ostavivši za sobom opus kao da su ustvari preminula barem desetorica ljudi. Naše novinarstvo teško da je imalo veću facu.

Otišla je jedna od zadnjih istinskih legendi hrvatskog novinarstva - vječni Pero Zlatar, novinar uz kojeg su rasle i formirale se generacije mladih u Hrvatskoj ali i na nekadašnjim prostorima bivše Jugoslavije. Umro je, u 86. godini, od zatajenja srca, koje je do kraja kucalo za novinarstvo kakvog sve manje ima. Radio je do kraja, jer i sam je govorio da novinarstvo nema dobne granice ni rok trajanja.
Kad bi se tražila najzagrebačkija od svih zagrebačkih pjesama, sva je prilika da bi tu prestižnu titulu odnijela skladba "Zadnji fijaker“ iz 1963. godine, koju je pjevao Viki Glowatzky.
S druge strane, na nekom imaginarnom natječaju za najsplitskijeg od svih splitskih junaka, vjerojatno bi pobijedio Mali Marinko, dugovječni protagonist kolumne koja je desetljećima izlazila u "Slobodnoj Dalmaciji“. No, kakve veze imaju jedan pradavni šlager i ostarjeli novinski mulac?
Toliko izravne da izravnije ne mogu biti, jer im je autor isti. "Zadnji fijaker“ uglazbio je Stjepan Mihaljinec na stihove Drage Britvića i Pere Zlatara. Mali Marinko novinski je, pak, protagonist kojega je proslavio Miljenko Smoje, ali mu je pravi otac bio nitko drugo nego isti taj šjor Pero koji je rubriku začeo, osovio na noge, a onda je predao u ruke kolegi za kojeg je vjerovao da će bolje od njega znati pisati o splitskim balunjerima.
Pero Zlatar uspio je u naoko nemogućemu: da se i na sjeveru i na jugu "upiše“ u velike mitotvorce koji su svojim djelom stvorili identitet ili makar raširene predodžbe o tim sredinama. Uspio je u još mnogočemu. Kad se makar i ovlašno pregleda Zlatarova radna biografija čovjek teško može odoljeti iskušenju da se upita kako je, pobogu, taj čovjek stizao posvršavati sve svoje poslove.
U svojstvu urednika potpisao je cijeli niz listova koji su bili vrlo različitih profila, ali ih je sve ujedinjavala činjenica da su imali vrtoglavo visoke naklade. Kad ga je preuzeo, "Plavi vjesnik“ bio je relativno uspješan strip-zabavnik namijenjen mlađim uzrastima. Zlatar ga je pretvorio u obveznu lektiru svih tinejdžera s područja bivše Jugoslavije, gladnih priloga o omiljenim glazbenim vedetama druge polovice šezdesetih godina.

Od tjednika "Studio“ koji je izvorno zamišljen kao puka ekstenzija televizijskog programa – i to u vremenu kad se emitirao samo jedan jedincati televizijski program – napravio je zlatnu koku koja je hranila cijeli pregolemi "Vjesnikov“ pogon

Dovoljno je reći da mu je naklada debelo premašivala (za ono vrijeme fantastičnih, a za ovo znanstvenofantastičnih) tristo tisuća primjeraka (!), te da je "Studio“ ranih sedamdesetih godina svojim čitateljima darivao namjenski snimljene i proizvedene gramofonske ploče na kojima su pjevali celebrityji od Miše Kovača naniže. Naravno, urednik Zlatar nije se bavio samo zabavnim tiskom, nego je utisnuo snažan pečat i u informativno-političkom novinarstvu, kao, recimo, urednik u "Vjesniku u srijedu“.
Premda je teško, vjerojatno i nemoguće, u povijesti hrvatskoga novinarstva pronaći uspješnijeg urednika od njega, stvar postaje zbilja fascinantna tek kad shvatimo da Zlatar po svojim afinitetima i vokaciji nikad nije htio biti urednik.
Kudikamo draže bilo mu je špartati bijelim svijetom i pisati. Srećom po njega, ali i po nas, koji smo mu bili zahvalna publika, obje svoje ambicije stigao je zadovoljiti: proputovao je sve kontinente i boravio u 180 zemalja. Koliko je, pak, tekstova donio sa svojih skitnji diljem globusa, neusporedivo je teže procijeniti.
Nema, međutim, nikakve sumnje da tu prebogatu građu nije uputno mjeriti u stranicama ili svescima, nego prije u paletama.
Kao što je bio visokotiražni novinski pisac i urednik, bio je i rado čitani publicist čiji su autorski interesi pokrivali široki raspon tema od estrade (knjige o Ivi Robiću i Ivici Šerfeziju) ili nogometa (libar o Dražanu Jerkoviću) sve do hard core politike (iznimno zapažena djela o Enveru Hoxhi i albanskoj verziji socijalizma, trotomni dokumentarni roman o Anti Paveliću...).
Kao da mu to nije dosta, stigao je biti i direktor Dinama, predsjednik Cibone... Da je poživio, tko zna, možda bi i kod nas stigao voditi neki sportski kolektiv, ionako je na Split bio oduvijek slab.
Pero Zlatar preminuo je u petak u 86. godini, ostavivši za sobom opus kao da su ustvari preminula barem desetorica ljudi. Naše novinarstvo teško da je imalo veću facu.
