“Jednog dana snimit ću sigurno film na engleskom jeziku, ali ne znam kad. Trenutno imam dva projekta na engleskome, no priznajem da se bojim malo. Znate, ja prilikom snimanja dosta improviziram, i to mogu raditi na španjolskome, a ne znam jesam li kadar i na engleskome. Bojim se da će se nešto vjerojatno izgubiti u prijevodu”, otkrio je Pedro Almodovar 2013. u ekskluzivnom intervjuu za “Slobodnu”.

Deset godina kasnije, Pedro je snimio “Čudan način života” (“Strange Way Of Life”), drugi od njegova dva, doduše kratkometražna, filma na engleskom jeziku nakon “Human Voice” iz 2020. s Tildom Swinton. Premijerno prikazan na ZFF-u, “Čudan način života” je i nešto više od Almodovarova filma na engleskom – prvi (gay) vestern španjolskog redatelja s dvije hollywoodske zvijezde, Ethanom Hawkeom i imenjakom Pedrom Pascalom.

Almodovar je bio u igri za režiju “Planine Brokeback” o nesuđenom zajedničkom životu dvojice kauboja i trebao je to biti njegov prvijenac na engleskome, ali je, nesiguran, prepustio film kolegi Angu Leeju. Zato “Strange Way Of Life” dođe Pedru kao određena nadoknada propuštene prilike.

Kristalno je jasno zašto vestern kao žanr privlači Almodovara, no čini se kako je zakasnio da ga demačoizira i okrene naopačke na svjež način nakon što su to već napravili “Brokeback Mountain” i “The Power Of The Dog”. Klasični vesterni snimljeni su u jarkim bojama “techicolora” kakvima Pedro oduvijek krasi svoje filmove, uključujući i one recentne (“Julieta”, “Tuga i slava”, “Paralelne majke”), dok kaubojci često u sebi sadrže melankoličnu melodramu, tj. njezine “povišene emocije”.

Sjetimo se “Tragača” Johna Forda i skrivene čežnje lika Johna Waynea prema ženi njegova brata i obratno. O potisnutoj muškosti kauboja u vesternima i gay konotacijama da i ne govorimo (npr. likovi Montgomeryja Clifta i Johna Irelanda u razgovoru o pištoljima u “Crvenoj rijeci”).

Ovdje Hawke i Pascal igraju bivše ljubavnike Jakea i Silvu; oni se nisu vidjeli 25 godina, otkako su se zaljubili jedan u drugog pucajući u bačvu i ispijajući vino iz rupa od metaka (tad ih glume Jason Fernandez i Jose Condessa). Jake je šerif i upravo se priprema pronaći ubojicu svoga brata, sumnjajući da bi to mogao biti nitko drugi doli Silvin sin Joe (George Steane).

Zbog toga Silva i dolazi u posjet nekadašnjem ljubavniku, usput i kako bi ponovno rasplamsao njihovu ljubavnu priču, što će se dogoditi i izazvati unutarnji konflikt u Jakeu. Jako potentno na papiru, ali na ekranu neautentično, nažalost. Vesternske i almodovarovske jarke boje nekako su izblijedjele u “Čudnom načinu života”, unatoč tome što ga kao snimatelj potpisuje redateljev česti suradnik Jose Luis Alcaine (glazba Alberta Iglesiasa znatno je prikladnija od fotografije).

“Strange Way Of Life” nije raskošno koloriran i filmičan, a povremeno djeluje poput skice za dugometražni film, pa i svojevrsnog maskenbala ili igrokaza na temu vesterna kojeg glumci sprječavaju da izgleda poluamaterski, premda teško pronalaze romantičnu kemiju i tenziju prijeko potrebnu za priču, posebice u usporedbi s dojmljivijim Heathom Ledgerom i Jakeom Gyllenhaalom.

“Dva muškarca da žive na ranču... Što bi radili?” pitao se Jake, podsjećajući na Ledgerova lika Ennisa u razgovoru s Gyllenhaalovim Jackom. No, Ennis nije dobio novu priliku, a Jake jest. “Prije mnogo godina, pitao si me što bi dva muškarca mogla raditi živeći zajedno na ranču. Sad ću ti odgovoriti. Mogu paziti i štititi jedan drugog. Mogu jedno drugome praviti društvo”, govori Silva. “Čudan način života” ispisuje svojevrsni post scriptum “Planini Brokeback” i to je najveća vrlina filma.

“Jednog dana snimit ću sigurno film na engleskom jeziku, ali ne znam kad. Trenutno imam dva projekta na engleskome, no priznajem da se bojim malo. Znate, ja prilikom snimanja dosta improviziram, i to mogu raditi na španjolskome, a ne znam jesam li kadar i na engleskome. Bojim se da će se nešto vjerojatno izgubiti u prijevodu”, otkrio je Pedro Almodovar 2013. u ekskluzivnom intervjuu za “Slobodnu”.

Deset godina kasnije, Pedro je snimio “Čudan način života” (“Strange Way Of Life”), drugi od njegova dva, doduše kratkometražna, filma na engleskom jeziku nakon “Human Voice” iz 2020. s Tildom Swinton. Premijerno prikazan na ZFF-u, “Čudan način života” je i nešto više od Almodovarova filma na engleskom – prvi (gay) vestern španjolskog redatelja s dvije hollywoodske zvijezde, Ethanom Hawkeom i imenjakom Pedrom Pascalom.

Almodovar je bio u igri za režiju “Planine Brokeback” o nesuđenom zajedničkom životu dvojice kauboja i trebao je to biti njegov prvijenac na engleskome, ali je, nesiguran, prepustio film kolegi Angu Leeju. Zato “Strange Way Of Life” dođe Pedru kao određena nadoknada propuštene prilike.

Kristalno je jasno zašto vestern kao žanr privlači Almodovara, no čini se kako je zakasnio da ga demačoizira i okrene naopačke na svjež način nakon što su to već napravili “Brokeback Mountain” i “The Power Of The Dog”. Klasični vesterni snimljeni su u jarkim bojama “techicolora” kakvima Pedro oduvijek krasi svoje filmove, uključujući i one recentne (“Julieta”, “Tuga i slava”, “Paralelne majke”), dok kaubojci često u sebi sadrže melankoličnu melodramu, tj. njezine “povišene emocije”.

Sjetimo se “Tragača” Johna Forda i skrivene čežnje lika Johna Waynea prema ženi njegova brata i obratno. O potisnutoj muškosti kauboja u vesternima i gay konotacijama da i ne govorimo (npr. likovi Montgomeryja Clifta i Johna Irelanda u razgovoru o pištoljima u “Crvenoj rijeci”).

Ovdje Hawke i Pascal igraju bivše ljubavnike Jakea i Silvu; oni se nisu vidjeli 25 godina, otkako su se zaljubili jedan u drugog pucajući u bačvu i ispijajući vino iz rupa od metaka (tad ih glume Jason Fernandez i Jose Condessa). Jake je šerif i upravo se priprema pronaći ubojicu svoga brata, sumnjajući da bi to mogao biti nitko drugi doli Silvin sin Joe (George Steane).

Zbog toga Silva i dolazi u posjet nekadašnjem ljubavniku, usput i kako bi ponovno rasplamsao njihovu ljubavnu priču, što će se dogoditi i izazvati unutarnji konflikt u Jakeu. Jako potentno na papiru, ali na ekranu neautentično, nažalost. Vesternske i almodovarovske jarke boje nekako su izblijedjele u “Čudnom načinu života”, unatoč tome što ga kao snimatelj potpisuje redateljev česti suradnik Jose Luis Alcaine (glazba Alberta Iglesiasa znatno je prikladnija od fotografije).

“Strange Way Of Life” nije raskošno koloriran i filmičan, a povremeno djeluje poput skice za dugometražni film, pa i svojevrsnog maskenbala ili igrokaza na temu vesterna kojeg glumci sprječavaju da izgleda poluamaterski, premda teško pronalaze romantičnu kemiju i tenziju prijeko potrebnu za priču, posebice u usporedbi s dojmljivijim Heathom Ledgerom i Jakeom Gyllenhaalom.

“Dva muškarca da žive na ranču... Što bi radili?” pitao se Jake, podsjećajući na Ledgerova lika Ennisa u razgovoru s Gyllenhaalovim Jackom. No, Ennis nije dobio novu priliku, a Jake jest. “Prije mnogo godina, pitao si me što bi dva muškarca mogla raditi živeći zajedno na ranču. Sad ću ti odgovoriti. Mogu paziti i štititi jedan drugog. Mogu jedno drugome praviti društvo”, govori Silva. “Čudan način života” ispisuje svojevrsni post scriptum “Planini Brokeback” i to je najveća vrlina filma.
