49-godišnjak iz Londona preminuo je nakon što su mu liječnici greškom  presadil bubreg koji je bio načet karcinomom, navodi se u rezultatima istrage. Parminder Singh Sidhu umro je u agoniji u ožujku – godinu dana nakon zahvata – nakon što liječnici nisu uspjeli uočiti tumor.

Štoviše, još dvoje pacijenata koji su također primili organe od iste donorice kasnije je oboljelo od raka.

U istrazi je ustanovljno da su liječnici pregledali gospodina Sidhua četiri mjeseca nakon "uspješne" transplantacije i tada je na bubregu uočena lezija od jednog centimetra. U početku je dijagnosticirano da je to cista. Tek kasnije je otkriveno da se radi o vrlo agresivnom obliku raka koji je metastazirao iz doniranog organa.

Shrvana Sidhuaova udovica, Tarjinder (47), rekla je za Daily Mail: "Moj je suprug toliko vjerovao svojim liječnicima. Kako im je ovo promaklo? Želio je na operaciju kako bi si poboljšao život. Sada je jako, jako teško i meni i našoj djeci. Cijelo vrijeme mislim na njega."

Mrtvozornica je izjavila: "Ova smrt je posljedica vrlo rijetke komplikacije pri transplantacijama. Mora da je jako teško biti prvo sretan zbog uspješne transplantacije pa doživjeti ovako užasnu promjene sudbine."

Slučaj gospodina Sidhua smatra se toliko rijetkim da se vjeruje da je jedan od samo 11 takvih evidentiranih u svijetu, u koje se obavi više od 80.000 transplantacija godišnje. Istraga je pokazala da liječnici nisu imali razloga sumnjati u kvalitetu organa, jer sama donorica nije imala takvu povijest bolesti niti simptome raka.

Frank Dor, kirurg konzultant za transplantaciju na Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, rekao je: "Svi smo prilično šokirani. Čak ni  gledajući unatrag, nismo mogli pronaći nijedan razlog da se ova transplantacija ne obavi. Uzeli smo sve u obzir, sve faktore koji su nam poznati i nije bilo razloga za zabrinutost."

Parminder Singh Sidhu iz zapadnog Londona imao je problema s bubrezima u svojim 30-ima i već je imao transplantaciju u rodnoj Indiji 2005. godine, bez ikakvih komplikacija. Ali ovaj DHL-ov utovarivač na aerodromu Heathrow počeo je ponovno imati problema s organom  i redovito je išao na dijalizu. Ta rutina sprječavala je inače po svemu drugom zdravog oca dvoje djece da radi onoliko koliko bi želio da osigura bolju egzistenciju svojoj obitelji pa se odlučio na još jednu transplantaciju.

Podvrgnut je zahvatu u bolnici Hammersmith – jednom od najvećih centara za transplantaciju bubrega u Europi – u travnju prošle godine. Ali nakon što su ga liječnici uvjerili da je prvi pregled pokazao da nema problema, par mjeseci kasnije počeo je osjećati bolove u kuku.

Snimanje u prosincu otkrilo je izraslinu od sedam centimetara na doniranom bubregu, što je natjeralo liječnike da ponovno pregledaju njegov prethodne snimke iz kojih su otkrili da su propustili vidjeti znakove raka.

Odlučio je izvaditi bolesni bubreg, ali liječnici nisu uočili da mu se rak već proširio na kralježnicu te je preminuo u ožujku ove godine, samo dva mjeseca nakon te naknadne operacije.

Testovi su otkrili da rak nije limfom, koji se pojavljuje u oko dva posto transplantiranih bubrega jer lijekovi za suzbijanje imunosnog sustava zaustavljaju tijelo u borbi protiv staničnih mutacija. Umjesto toga, sam donirani organ je imao rak.

Istragom je ustanovljeno da je donorica bubrega umrla od ozljeda glave, stoga liječnici nisu bili svjesni da je ona imala rak.

49-godišnjak iz Londona preminuo je nakon što su mu liječnici greškom  presadil bubreg koji je bio načet karcinomom, navodi se u rezultatima istrage. Parminder Singh Sidhu umro je u agoniji u ožujku – godinu dana nakon zahvata – nakon što liječnici nisu uspjeli uočiti tumor.

Štoviše, još dvoje pacijenata koji su također primili organe od iste donorice kasnije je oboljelo od raka.

U istrazi je ustanovljno da su liječnici pregledali gospodina Sidhua četiri mjeseca nakon "uspješne" transplantacije i tada je na bubregu uočena lezija od jednog centimetra. U početku je dijagnosticirano da je to cista. Tek kasnije je otkriveno da se radi o vrlo agresivnom obliku raka koji je metastazirao iz doniranog organa.

Shrvana Sidhuaova udovica, Tarjinder (47), rekla je za Daily Mail: "Moj je suprug toliko vjerovao svojim liječnicima. Kako im je ovo promaklo? Želio je na operaciju kako bi si poboljšao život. Sada je jako, jako teško i meni i našoj djeci. Cijelo vrijeme mislim na njega."

Mrtvozornica je izjavila: "Ova smrt je posljedica vrlo rijetke komplikacije pri transplantacijama. Mora da je jako teško biti prvo sretan zbog uspješne transplantacije pa doživjeti ovako užasnu promjene sudbine."

Slučaj gospodina Sidhua smatra se toliko rijetkim da se vjeruje da je jedan od samo 11 takvih evidentiranih u svijetu, u koje se obavi više od 80.000 transplantacija godišnje. Istraga je pokazala da liječnici nisu imali razloga sumnjati u kvalitetu organa, jer sama donorica nije imala takvu povijest bolesti niti simptome raka.

Frank Dor, kirurg konzultant za transplantaciju na Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, rekao je: "Svi smo prilično šokirani. Čak ni  gledajući unatrag, nismo mogli pronaći nijedan razlog da se ova transplantacija ne obavi. Uzeli smo sve u obzir, sve faktore koji su nam poznati i nije bilo razloga za zabrinutost."

Parminder Singh Sidhu iz zapadnog Londona imao je problema s bubrezima u svojim 30-ima i već je imao transplantaciju u rodnoj Indiji 2005. godine, bez ikakvih komplikacija. Ali ovaj DHL-ov utovarivač na aerodromu Heathrow počeo je ponovno imati problema s organom  i redovito je išao na dijalizu. Ta rutina sprječavala je inače po svemu drugom zdravog oca dvoje djece da radi onoliko koliko bi želio da osigura bolju egzistenciju svojoj obitelji pa se odlučio na još jednu transplantaciju.

Podvrgnut je zahvatu u bolnici Hammersmith – jednom od najvećih centara za transplantaciju bubrega u Europi – u travnju prošle godine. Ali nakon što su ga liječnici uvjerili da je prvi pregled pokazao da nema problema, par mjeseci kasnije počeo je osjećati bolove u kuku.

Snimanje u prosincu otkrilo je izraslinu od sedam centimetara na doniranom bubregu, što je natjeralo liječnike da ponovno pregledaju njegov prethodne snimke iz kojih su otkrili da su propustili vidjeti znakove raka.

Odlučio je izvaditi bolesni bubreg, ali liječnici nisu uočili da mu se rak već proširio na kralježnicu te je preminuo u ožujku ove godine, samo dva mjeseca nakon te naknadne operacije.

Testovi su otkrili da rak nije limfom, koji se pojavljuje u oko dva posto transplantiranih bubrega jer lijekovi za suzbijanje imunosnog sustava zaustavljaju tijelo u borbi protiv staničnih mutacija. Umjesto toga, sam donirani organ je imao rak.

Istragom je ustanovljeno da je donorica bubrega umrla od ozljeda glave, stoga liječnici nisu bili svjesni da je ona imala rak.

49-godišnjak iz Londona preminuo je nakon što su mu liječnici greškom  presadil bubreg koji je bio načet karcinomom, navodi se u rezultatima istrage. Parminder Singh Sidhu umro je u agoniji u ožujku – godinu dana nakon zahvata – nakon što liječnici nisu uspjeli uočiti tumor.

Štoviše, još dvoje pacijenata koji su također primili organe od iste donorice kasnije je oboljelo od raka.

U istrazi je ustanovljno da su liječnici pregledali gospodina Sidhua četiri mjeseca nakon "uspješne" transplantacije i tada je na bubregu uočena lezija od jednog centimetra. U početku je dijagnosticirano da je to cista. Tek kasnije je otkriveno da se radi o vrlo agresivnom obliku raka koji je metastazirao iz doniranog organa.
