Jeste li na odjelima voća i povrća već primijetili one nezgrapne, bizarno velike citruse nalik na grejp? Ako ste ih ikad kušali, znate da su slađi od grejpa, ali ne tako fini kao naranče, no što zapravo znate o plodu koji nosi latinski naziv Citrus grandis i pomelo zbunjujuće konvencionalno ime pomelo?
Riječ pomelo nas u Dalmaciji možda podsjeća na pome, no stanovnike francuskog govornog područja vjerojatno asocira na jabuke, odnosno pommes, no ovo voće nema veze sa spomenutim plodovima. Podrijetlo imena zapravo nije baš najjasnije, no pretpostavlja se da ima veze s riječju pompelmoes kojom Nizozemci nazivaju grejpfrut. Geografsko mu je, pak, podrijetlo vrlo precizno određeno na Maleziju i Indoneziju, gdje su ga Europljani otkrili oko 1700. godine.

Jeste li na odjelima voća i povrća već primijetili one nezgrapne, bizarno velike citruse nalik na grejp? Ako ste ih ikad kušali, znate da su slađi od grejpa, ali ne tako fini kao naranče, no što zapravo znate o plodu koji nosi latinski naziv Citrus grandis i pomelo zbunjujuće konvencionalno ime pomelo?
Riječ pomelo nas u Dalmaciji možda podsjeća na pome, no stanovnike francuskog govornog područja vjerojatno asocira na jabuke, odnosno pommes, no ovo voće nema veze sa spomenutim plodovima. Podrijetlo imena zapravo nije baš najjasnije, no pretpostavlja se da ima veze s riječju pompelmoes kojom Nizozemci nazivaju grejpfrut. Geografsko mu je, pak, podrijetlo vrlo precizno određeno na Maleziju i Indoneziju, gdje su ga Europljani otkrili oko 1700. godine.

Ako ga nikad niste vidjeli ili ste mu samo dobacili pogled u prolazu, možda se pitate kako izgleda ispod kore. Evo vam odgovor: meso pomela može biti zeleno ili žuto, a primjerci koji se kod nas nude u trgovinama tek su prosječno veliki - inače mogu doseći veličinu dinje. Okus mu, kao što je spomenuto, podsjeća na grejp, ali je ugodniji i slađi.
Manje je poznato da sadrži dosta hranjivih tvari, uključujući antioksidanse koji se bore protiv raka. Jedan plod pomela ima dovoljno vitamina C da vam zadovolji višednevne potrebe, a bogat je i drugim vitaminima, mineralima, vlaknima, bakrom i kalijem.

Zbog svega navedenog pomelo pospješuje probavu i sprječava zatvor, podržava zfdravlje kostiju, zdravu težinu i smanjuje rizik od određenih kroničnih bolesti.
Pomelo također sadrži relativno malo kalorija po porciji pa vam je izvrstan saveznik ako pokušavate smršaviti, a kako je pun antioksidansa može vam pomoći da zadržite mladolik izgled te da se uspješnije oduprete posljedicama stresnog načina života.

Pomelo možete jesti krišku po krišku, kao što biste jeli naranču ili grejp. Može vam biti doručak ili međuobrok, a sasvim dobro može zamjeniti druge citruse u običajenim receptima.
Kako nije pretjerano sladak, možete ga dodati i voćnim i povrtnim salatama, osobito je dobar dodatak kristalki, malovilcu i putarici, ali i gorčim vrstama, poput radiča, dok je njegov sok zgodan dodatak preljevima za različite vrste salata.
