Antički izvori tvrde da je Popeja Sabina, supruga cara Nerona, bila iznimno lijepa i pametna iako je navodno bila i "osoba bez skrupula", piše National Geographic.

Popeja Sabina je rođena otprilike oko 30. godine nove ere u Pompejima, gradu koji je kasnije stradao od erupcije Vezuva.

Njena rana mladost bila je obilježena brojnim nesrećama. Prvo samoubojstvom oca, Tita Olija, koji je bio umješan u zavjeru protiv cara Tiberija; a onda i majke Popeje Starije koja je 47. godine oduzela sebi život nakon što je bila upletena u urotu koju je skovala Mesalina, tadašnja supruga cara Klaudija.

Kada je imala samo 14 godina, udala se za senatora egipatskog podrijetla koji se zvao Rufije Krispin. Par je imao sina, istog imena. Ali ubrzo je uslijedio razvod, a Rufije je smjenjen s položaja zapovjednika pretorijanske garde po naređenju Agripine Mlađe, majke cara Nerona.

Nakon razvoda, Popeju je privukao mladi patricij Marko Salvije Oton (koji će postati rimski car 69. godine), s kojim se vjenčala 58. godine.

Povjesničari se ne slažu oko toga je li Popeja upoznala novog rimskog cara, Nerona Klaudija Cezara Augusta Germanika, prije ili za vrijeme toga braka. Ako je vjerovati Tacitu, upoznali su se dok je još bila Otonova žena, a on je, kako je sam tvrdio, pogriješio jer je pred Neronom previše veličao ljepotu i osobine svoje žene.

Izvori tvrde da je Oton jednom bio prisiljen suprostaviti se Neronovim ljudima koji su bili poslani u njegovu kuću da silom odvedu Popeju. Na kraju je i sam car došao po nju. Nakon ovog skandaloznog događaja, Oton je protjeran a Neron se razveo od prve žene, Oktavije.

Neron i Popeja su sklopili brak 62. godine. Popeja je tada dobila titulu carice, i bilo joj je dozvoljeno sudjelovanje u nekim državnim poslovima.

Prema Tacitovim riječima 63. godine nove ere Neron se silno razveselio dolasku kćeri koju mu je rodila Popeja i dao joj ime Augusta. U čast djevojčice, u Rimu su organizirane velike svečanosti, a bogovima je iskazana velika zahvalnost i podignut je hram. Ali radost je bila kratkog vijeka, dijete je preminulo samo četiri meseca nakon rođenja.

Dvije godine kasnije, u tijeku festivala na kome su se održavala glazbena i govornička natjecanja kao i trke kočija, car je prouzročio Popejinu smrt.

Navodno se on kasno povukao iz trke, što mu je carica oštro zamjerila. Neron je bio pijan a ona trudna.

Svetonije tvrdi: "njegova ljubav ga nije spriječila da je udarcima ubije".

Danas mnogi povjesničari temeljem Tacitovih tvrdnji pretpostavljaju da je Popeja imala pobačaj koji je rezultirao smrću.

Ali, da bi se prikazalo kako Neron nije imao ništa s tim, ističe se njegovo ekstremno javno iskazivanje tuge nakon sahrane i u danima koji su slijedili. Ipak, ovo ga nije spriječilo da se ponovo oženi, po treći put.

Ali, nova carica nije mogla nadomjestiti Popeju, pa je ponovno tražio suprugu koja bi joj nalikovala, po čitavom Rimu.

Na kraju, Neron je pronašao ono za čim je tragao, eunuha po imenu Sporus, kojega je natjerao da se češlja, oblači i šminka baš kao što je to nekada radila njegova voljena Popeja.

O Popeji Sabini do danas su ostala brojna neodgovorena pitanja. Najčešća su - kakvu je ulogu zapravo imala u ubojstvima Agripine Mlađe, Neronove majke, prve Neronove supruge Oktavije pa i filozofa Seneke? Većina se slaže da su priče o njoj bile preuveličane, iako nitko ne poriče tvrdnje antičkih izvora da je bila "osoba bez ikakvih skrupula".

Antički izvori tvrde da je Popeja Sabina, supruga cara Nerona, bila iznimno lijepa i pametna iako je navodno bila i "osoba bez skrupula", piše National Geographic.

Popeja Sabina je rođena otprilike oko 30. godine nove ere u Pompejima, gradu koji je kasnije stradao od erupcije Vezuva.

Njena rana mladost bila je obilježena brojnim nesrećama. Prvo samoubojstvom oca, Tita Olija, koji je bio umješan u zavjeru protiv cara Tiberija; a onda i majke Popeje Starije koja je 47. godine oduzela sebi život nakon što je bila upletena u urotu koju je skovala Mesalina, tadašnja supruga cara Klaudija.

Kada je imala samo 14 godina, udala se za senatora egipatskog podrijetla koji se zvao Rufije Krispin. Par je imao sina, istog imena. Ali ubrzo je uslijedio razvod, a Rufije je smjenjen s položaja zapovjednika pretorijanske garde po naređenju Agripine Mlađe, majke cara Nerona.

Nakon razvoda, Popeju je privukao mladi patricij Marko Salvije Oton (koji će postati rimski car 69. godine), s kojim se vjenčala 58. godine.

Povjesničari se ne slažu oko toga je li Popeja upoznala novog rimskog cara, Nerona Klaudija Cezara Augusta Germanika, prije ili za vrijeme toga braka. Ako je vjerovati Tacitu, upoznali su se dok je još bila Otonova žena, a on je, kako je sam tvrdio, pogriješio jer je pred Neronom previše veličao ljepotu i osobine svoje žene.

Izvori tvrde da je Oton jednom bio prisiljen suprostaviti se Neronovim ljudima koji su bili poslani u njegovu kuću da silom odvedu Popeju. Na kraju je i sam car došao po nju. Nakon ovog skandaloznog događaja, Oton je protjeran a Neron se razveo od prve žene, Oktavije.

Neron i Popeja su sklopili brak 62. godine. Popeja je tada dobila titulu carice, i bilo joj je dozvoljeno sudjelovanje u nekim državnim poslovima.

Prema Tacitovim riječima 63. godine nove ere Neron se silno razveselio dolasku kćeri koju mu je rodila Popeja i dao joj ime Augusta. U čast djevojčice, u Rimu su organizirane velike svečanosti, a bogovima je iskazana velika zahvalnost i podignut je hram. Ali radost je bila kratkog vijeka, dijete je preminulo samo četiri meseca nakon rođenja.

Dvije godine kasnije, u tijeku festivala na kome su se održavala glazbena i govornička natjecanja kao i trke kočija, car je prouzročio Popejinu smrt.

Navodno se on kasno povukao iz trke, što mu je carica oštro zamjerila. Neron je bio pijan a ona trudna.

Svetonije tvrdi: "njegova ljubav ga nije spriječila da je udarcima ubije".

Danas mnogi povjesničari temeljem Tacitovih tvrdnji pretpostavljaju da je Popeja imala pobačaj koji je rezultirao smrću.

Ali, da bi se prikazalo kako Neron nije imao ništa s tim, ističe se njegovo ekstremno javno iskazivanje tuge nakon sahrane i u danima koji su slijedili. Ipak, ovo ga nije spriječilo da se ponovo oženi, po treći put.

Ali, nova carica nije mogla nadomjestiti Popeju, pa je ponovno tražio suprugu koja bi joj nalikovala, po čitavom Rimu.

Na kraju, Neron je pronašao ono za čim je tragao, eunuha po imenu Sporus, kojega je natjerao da se češlja, oblači i šminka baš kao što je to nekada radila njegova voljena Popeja.

O Popeji Sabini do danas su ostala brojna neodgovorena pitanja. Najčešća su - kakvu je ulogu zapravo imala u ubojstvima Agripine Mlađe, Neronove majke, prve Neronove supruge Oktavije pa i filozofa Seneke? Većina se slaže da su priče o njoj bile preuveličane, iako nitko ne poriče tvrdnje antičkih izvora da je bila "osoba bez ikakvih skrupula".

Antički izvori tvrde da je Popeja Sabina, supruga cara Nerona, bila iznimno lijepa i pametna iako je navodno bila i "osoba bez skrupula", piše National Geographic.

Popeja Sabina je rođena otprilike oko 30. godine nove ere u Pompejima, gradu koji je kasnije stradao od erupcije Vezuva.

Njena rana mladost bila je obilježena brojnim nesrećama.
