The natural beauties of the island of Vis and its surrounding sea waters are so magnificent that their experience is long remembered.

The entire world has already been acquainted with Stinava Beach which has been named as one of the most beautiful on the planet. Since then, it has aroused so much interest that it attracts boaters and excursionists, so sometimes boats line up in front of the cove, waiting in line just for people to see this beauty.

But caves in the Vis waters are real gems that not only need to be seen but also experienced. The Blue, Green and Seal caves offer a special experience.

The Blue Cave on the island of Biševo is fascinating, and many world travelers have declared it more beautiful and wonderful than the Grotta Azzurra cave on the island of Capri near Naples. The Blue Cave was declared a protected geomorphological natural monument in 1951.

It can be easily reached even in tourist boats from Komiža. The ride lasts about fifteen minutes, and the best time for visits is between 10am and 2 pm. Why? Because of the irrealistic play of light that makes the Blue Cave like a phenomenon of blue and silver shades of the sea giving it this uniqueness, and the light reaching the cave through the underwater opening, and then breaks creating blue shades.

They say the sea inside the cave sometimes has the color of liquid silver. The blue cave has two openings, a natural one below sea level, on the south side, through which sunlight penetrates, and then the magic starts.

The second opening is smaller, made artificially allowing a boat to pass, and was made by a painter, Baron Ransonnet in 1884.

Another natural beauty is the Green Cave, also protected as a geomorphological natural monument in 1967. It is located on the island of Ravnik, and has two large openings. The magic of lights happens in the Green Cave because of the opening at the top through which the sunlight reaches illuminating the seabed like a reflector.

If you are on Vis, you should also take a look at Seal Cave on the south side of the island of Biševo. Its peculiarity is that it was once the habitat of the most endangered mammal in the world - the Mediterranean seal, which found refuge for breeding on the shores of the cave. That is how the cave got its name.
