Postoje veliki izgledi da novi koronavirus postane sezonska bolest, rekao je vodeći američki znanstvenik istaknuvši da je hitno potrebno pronaći cjepivo i učinkovito liječenje.
Anthony Fauci, koji vodi istraživanja infektivnih bolesti na Nacionalnom institutu za zdravlje, rekao je na brifingu za novinare da se virus počinje ukorjenjivati na južnoj hemisferi gdje dolazi zima.
"Sada vidimo... u južnoj Africi i zemljama južne hemisfere da imamo slučajeve koji se pojavljuju kad oni ulaze u zimu", kazao je.
"Ako se kod njih dogodi velika epidemija, onda je neizbježno i mi moramo biti spremni da će se kod nas opet pojaviti", ustvrdio je Fauci.
Kazao je da treba raditi na razvijanju cjepiva, njegovom brzom testiranju i pripremanju kako bi ono bilo dostupno za iduću sezonu.
Trenutačno postoje dva cjepiva koja su ušla u klinička ispitivanja na ljudima, jedno u SAD-u i jedno u Kini, i ona bi mogla biti na tržištu za godinu, godinu i pol.
Također se istražuju načini liječenja - neki novi lijekovi i lijekovi namijenjeni u druge svrhe, uključujući antimalarijske lijekove klorokin i hidroksiklorokin.
Američki predsjednik Donald Trump nedavno je objavio na Twitteru da bi kombinacija hidroksiklorokina i azitromicina - antibiotika Sumameda koji je 1980. otkriven u Plivi, mogla biti učinkovita u liječenju Covida-19.

Fauci je upozorio da se radi o koktelu lijekova čije je pozitivno djelovanje za sada potvrđeno samo neslužbeno kroz pojedinačna iskustva, a ne u nekim opsežnijim istraživanjima.
"Ako doista želite definitivno znati djeluje li nešto, morate obaviti onu vrstu ispitivanja koja vam daju kvalitetne informacije", rekao je Fauci. "Predsjednik govori o nadi za ljude", a ne o znanosti, dodao je.
Informacija o mogućoj učinkovitosti ova dva lijeka temelji se na iskustvima kineskih liječnika u liječenju oboljelih u Kini i na francuskoj studiji objavljenoj nedavno u stručnom časopisu International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents.
Studija, u kojoj je sudjelovalo 30 oboljelih od Covida-19, pokazala je da hidroksiklorokin skraćuje i ublažava simptome te da su učinci najbolji kada se uzima u kombinaciji s antibiotikom azitromicinom.
Problem studije je, meeđu ostalim, to što je napravljena na malom i nereprezentativnom uzorku.
"Znam da ćemo to (Covid-19) uspješno suzbiti, ali stvarno moramo biti spremni za drugi ciklus", zaključio je Fauci.
Njegove izjave sugeriraju da virusu više odgovara hladnije vrijeme nego topli i vlažni uvjeti, što se pokazalo u nekim preliminarnim istraživanjima.
Smatra se da je razlog tome to što tijekom hladnog vremena virusne kapljice ostaju duže u zraku, a imunitet je slabiji.
Još jedan mogući razlog brže je razgrađivanje virusa na toplijim površinama, vjerojatno zbog toga što se zaštitni sloj masti kojim su omotani brže isušuje.
Međutim, smanjena stopa zaraze ne znači da je virus uklonjen. Tako na primjer Australija ima gotovo 2.500 potvrđenih slučajeva i osam smrti zbog koronavirusa.

Postoje veliki izgledi da novi koronavirus postane sezonska bolest, rekao je vodeći američki znanstvenik istaknuvši da je hitno potrebno pronaći cjepivo i učinkovito liječenje.
Anthony Fauci, koji vodi istraživanja infektivnih bolesti na Nacionalnom institutu za zdravlje, rekao je na brifingu za novinare da se virus počinje ukorjenjivati na južnoj hemisferi gdje dolazi zima.
"Sada vidimo... u južnoj Africi i zemljama južne hemisfere da imamo slučajeve koji se pojavljuju kad oni ulaze u zimu", kazao je.
"Ako se kod njih dogodi velika epidemija, onda je neizbježno i mi moramo biti spremni da će se kod nas opet pojaviti", ustvrdio je Fauci.
Kazao je da treba raditi na razvijanju cjepiva, njegovom brzom testiranju i pripremanju kako bi ono bilo dostupno za iduću sezonu.
Trenutačno postoje dva cjepiva koja su ušla u klinička ispitivanja na ljudima, jedno u SAD-u i jedno u Kini, i ona bi mogla biti na tržištu za godinu, godinu i pol.
Također se istražuju načini liječenja - neki novi lijekovi i lijekovi namijenjeni u druge svrhe, uključujući antimalarijske lijekove klorokin i hidroksiklorokin.
Američki predsjednik Donald Trump nedavno je objavio na Twitteru da bi kombinacija hidroksiklorokina i azitromicina - antibiotika Sumameda koji je 1980. otkriven u Plivi, mogla biti učinkovita u liječenju Covida-19.
Medicinska zajednica odbacila je Trumpovu tezu.
Fauci je upozorio da se radi o koktelu lijekova čije je pozitivno djelovanje za sada potvrđeno samo neslužbeno kroz pojedinačna iskustva, a ne u nekim opsežnijim istraživanjima.
"Ako doista želite definitivno znati djeluje li nešto, morate obaviti onu vrstu ispitivanja koja vam daju kvalitetne informacije", rekao je Fauci. "Predsjednik govori o nadi za ljude", a ne o znanosti, dodao je.
Informacija o mogućoj učinkovitosti ova dva lijeka temelji se na iskustvima kineskih liječnika u liječenju oboljelih u Kini i na francuskoj studiji objavljenoj nedavno u stručnom časopisu International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents.
Studija, u kojoj je sudjelovalo 30 oboljelih od Covida-19, pokazala je da hidroksiklorokin skraćuje i ublažava simptome te da su učinci najbolji kada se uzima u kombinaciji s antibiotikom azitromicinom.
Problem studije je, meeđu ostalim, to što je napravljena na malom i nereprezentativnom uzorku.
"Znam da ćemo to (Covid-19) uspješno suzbiti, ali stvarno moramo biti spremni za drugi ciklus", zaključio je Fauci.
Njegove izjave sugeriraju da virusu više odgovara hladnije vrijeme nego topli i vlažni uvjeti, što se pokazalo u nekim preliminarnim istraživanjima.
Smatra se da je razlog tome to što tijekom hladnog vremena virusne kapljice ostaju duže u zraku, a imunitet je slabiji.
Još jedan mogući razlog brže je razgrađivanje virusa na toplijim površinama, vjerojatno zbog toga što se zaštitni sloj masti kojim su omotani brže isušuje.
Međutim, smanjena stopa zaraze ne znači da je virus uklonjen. Tako na primjer Australija ima gotovo 2.500 potvrđenih slučajeva i osam smrti zbog koronavirusa.
