Stopa smrtnosti afričkih slučajeva koronavirusa alarmantno je porasla na 2,5 posto s globalne razine od 2,2 posto, navelo je u četvrtak čelno tijelo za kontrolu bolesti u Africi.
Ranije tijekom pandemije, afrička je stopa bila niža od svjetskog prosjeka, rekao je novinarima čelnik Afričkog centra za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti (CDC), John Nkengasong.
"Stopa smrtnosti postaje zabrinjavajuća za sve nas", rekao je, ne objašnjavajući razlog porasta.
"Raste broj afričkih država s višom stopom smrtnosti od globalnog prosjeka", dodao je. Dvadeset i jedna država kontinenta ima stopu višu od 3 posto, uključujući Egipat, Demokratsku Republiku Kongo i Sudan.
Stručnjaci su prošle godine rekli da je početna niža stopa smrtnosti u Africi možda bila posljedica manje testiranja i činjenice da Afrika ima mlađu populaciju.
Iako je Nkengasong zabrinut, čelnica Svjetske zdravstvene organizacije za Afriku Matshidiso Moeti je rekla na online konferenciji za novinare da afrička stopa smrtnosti nije dramatično lošija od one u drugim regijama.
Rekla je da su više stope vjerojatno povezane s zaraznijom varijantom otkrivenom u Južnofričkoj Republici.
S više od 1,3 milijarde stanovnika, u Africi je od covida-19 umrlo 81.000 ljudi, ili 4 posto umrlih od te bolesti u svijetu, rekao je Nkengasong.
U Africi je ukupno 3,3 milijuna zaraženih od početka pandemije.
Prošlog tjedna je taj kontinent izvijestio o 207.000 novozaraženih, od kojih samo u Južnoafričkoj Republici 100.000 slučajeva, rekao je Nkengasong.
Naglasio da Africi nedostaje odgovarajuća medicinska oprema, prije svega kisik. "Pristup kisiku od ključne važnosti na cijelom kontinentu", istaknuo je.
Afričke zemlje trebale bi uspostaviti međunarodna partnerstva kako bi poboljšale opskrbu kisikom, slično kao i za drugu medicinsku opremu i lijekove za covid pacijente, zaključio je Nkengasong.

Stopa smrtnosti afričkih slučajeva koronavirusa alarmantno je porasla na 2,5 posto s globalne razine od 2,2 posto, navelo je u četvrtak čelno tijelo za kontrolu bolesti u Africi.
Ranije tijekom pandemije, afrička je stopa bila niža od svjetskog prosjeka, rekao je novinarima čelnik Afričkog centra za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti (CDC), John Nkengasong.
"Stopa smrtnosti postaje zabrinjavajuća za sve nas", rekao je, ne objašnjavajući razlog porasta.
"Raste broj afričkih država s višom stopom smrtnosti od globalnog prosjeka", dodao je. Dvadeset i jedna država kontinenta ima stopu višu od 3 posto, uključujući Egipat, Demokratsku Republiku Kongo i Sudan.
Stručnjaci su prošle godine rekli da je početna niža stopa smrtnosti u Africi možda bila posljedica manje testiranja i činjenice da Afrika ima mlađu populaciju.
Iako je Nkengasong zabrinut, čelnica Svjetske zdravstvene organizacije za Afriku Matshidiso Moeti je rekla na online konferenciji za novinare da afrička stopa smrtnosti nije dramatično lošija od one u drugim regijama.
Rekla je da su više stope vjerojatno povezane s zaraznijom varijantom otkrivenom u Južnofričkoj Republici.
S više od 1,3 milijarde stanovnika, u Africi je od covida-19 umrlo 81.000 ljudi, ili 4 posto umrlih od te bolesti u svijetu, rekao je Nkengasong.
U Africi je ukupno 3,3 milijuna zaraženih od početka pandemije.
Prošlog tjedna je taj kontinent izvijestio o 207.000 novozaraženih, od kojih samo u Južnoafričkoj Republici 100.000 slučajeva, rekao je Nkengasong.
Naglasio da Africi nedostaje odgovarajuća medicinska oprema, prije svega kisik. "Pristup kisiku od ključne važnosti na cijelom kontinentu", istaknuo je.
Afričke zemlje trebale bi uspostaviti međunarodna partnerstva kako bi poboljšale opskrbu kisikom, slično kao i za drugu medicinsku opremu i lijekove za covid pacijente, zaključio je Nkengasong.
