Smrti više desetaka gambijske djece od akutnih ozljeda bubrega mogle bi biti povezane s kontaminiranim sirupima protiv kašlja i prehlade koje je napravio indijski proizvođač lijekova, u srijedu je objavila Svjetska zdravstvena organizacija (WHO).

Otkrića, koje je objavio glavni direktor WHO-a Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, uslijedili su nakon testiranja nekoliko medicinskih sirupa za koje se sumnjalo da su uzrokovali smrt 66 djece u maloj zapadnoafričkoj zemlji Gambiji.

Tedros je rekao da UN-ova agencija provodi istragu s indijskim regulatorima i tvrtkom koja je proizvela sirupe Maiden Pharmaceuticals.

Maiden Pharma je odbila komentirati, dok su pozivi i poruke glavnom indijskom regulatoru za lijekove ostali bez odgovora. Indijsko ministarstvo zdravstva nije odgovorilo na zahtjev za komentar.

WHO je u srijedu izdao upozorenje o medicinskim proizvodima tražeći od regulatora da uklone proizvode tvrtke Maiden Pharma s tržišta.

Proizvodi su možda distribuirani drugdje kroz neformalna tržišta, ali do sada su identificirani samo u Gambiji, navodi WHO u svom upozorenju.

Upozorenje se odnosi na četiri proizvoda - Promethazine Oral Solution, Kofexmalin Baby Cough Sirup, Makoff Baby Cough Sirup i Magrip N Cold Syrup.

Laboratorijska analiza potvrdila je "neprihvatljive" količine dietilen glikola i etilen glikola, koji mogu biti toksični i dovesti do akutnog oštećenja bubrega, priopćio je WHO.

Medicinski službenici u Gambiji digli su uzbunu u srpnju, nakon što su deseci djece počeli obolijevati te razvijati probleme s bubrezima. Smrti su bunile liječnike prije no što se pojavio obrazac – na desetke pacijenata mlađih od pet godina razboljeli su se tri do pet dana nakon što su uzeli lokalno prodavani paracetamol sirup.

Direktor zdravstvenih službi Gambije Mustapha Bittaye rekao je da su slični problemi otkriveni u drugim sirupima, ali da ministarstvo čeka potvrdu rezultata.

Kazao je da se broj smrtnih slučajeva smanjio posljednjih tjedana te da je zabranjena prodaja proizvoda Maiden Pharmaceuticalsa. No, donedavno su se neki od sirupa još uvijek prodavali u privatnim klinikama i bolnicama, rekao je.

Gambijska Agencija za kontrolu lijekova u utorak je poslala pismo zdravstvenim radnicima u kojem im nalaže da prestanu prodavati sve proizvode navedene na popisu WHO-a.

Maiden Pharmaceuticals proizvodi lijekove u svojim pogonima u Indiji, koje zatim prodaje na domaćem tržištu te ih izvozi u zemlje Azije, Afrike i Latinske Amerike, navodi se na internetskoj stranici kompanije.

Smrti više desetaka gambijske djece od akutnih ozljeda bubrega mogle bi biti povezane s kontaminiranim sirupima protiv kašlja i prehlade koje je napravio indijski proizvođač lijekova, u srijedu je objavila Svjetska zdravstvena organizacija (WHO).

Otkrića, koje je objavio glavni direktor WHO-a Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, uslijedili su nakon testiranja nekoliko medicinskih sirupa za koje se sumnjalo da su uzrokovali smrt 66 djece u maloj zapadnoafričkoj zemlji Gambiji.

Tedros je rekao da UN-ova agencija provodi istragu s indijskim regulatorima i tvrtkom koja je proizvela sirupe Maiden Pharmaceuticals.

Maiden Pharma je odbila komentirati, dok su pozivi i poruke glavnom indijskom regulatoru za lijekove ostali bez odgovora. Indijsko ministarstvo zdravstva nije odgovorilo na zahtjev za komentar.

WHO je u srijedu izdao upozorenje o medicinskim proizvodima tražeći od regulatora da uklone proizvode tvrtke Maiden Pharma s tržišta.

Proizvodi su možda distribuirani drugdje kroz neformalna tržišta, ali do sada su identificirani samo u Gambiji, navodi WHO u svom upozorenju.

Upozorenje se odnosi na četiri proizvoda - Promethazine Oral Solution, Kofexmalin Baby Cough Sirup, Makoff Baby Cough Sirup i Magrip N Cold Syrup.

Laboratorijska analiza potvrdila je "neprihvatljive" količine dietilen glikola i etilen glikola, koji mogu biti toksični i dovesti do akutnog oštećenja bubrega, priopćio je WHO.

Medicinski službenici u Gambiji digli su uzbunu u srpnju, nakon što su deseci djece počeli obolijevati te razvijati probleme s bubrezima. Smrti su bunile liječnike prije no što se pojavio obrazac – na desetke pacijenata mlađih od pet godina razboljeli su se tri do pet dana nakon što su uzeli lokalno prodavani paracetamol sirup.

Direktor zdravstvenih službi Gambije Mustapha Bittaye rekao je da su slični problemi otkriveni u drugim sirupima, ali da ministarstvo čeka potvrdu rezultata.

Kazao je da se broj smrtnih slučajeva smanjio posljednjih tjedana te da je zabranjena prodaja proizvoda Maiden Pharmaceuticalsa. No, donedavno su se neki od sirupa još uvijek prodavali u privatnim klinikama i bolnicama, rekao je.

Gambijska Agencija za kontrolu lijekova u utorak je poslala pismo zdravstvenim radnicima u kojem im nalaže da prestanu prodavati sve proizvode navedene na popisu WHO-a.

Maiden Pharmaceuticals proizvodi lijekove u svojim pogonima u Indiji, koje zatim prodaje na domaćem tržištu te ih izvozi u zemlje Azije, Afrike i Latinske Amerike, navodi se na internetskoj stranici kompanije.

Smrti više desetaka gambijske djece od akutnih ozljeda bubrega mogle bi biti povezane s kontaminiranim sirupima protiv kašlja i prehlade koje je napravio indijski proizvođač lijekova, u srijedu je objavila Svjetska zdravstvena organizacija (WHO).

Otkrića, koje je objavio glavni direktor WHO-a Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, uslijedili su nakon testiranja nekoliko medicinskih sirupa za koje se sumnjalo da su uzrokovali smrt 66 djece u maloj zapadnoafričkoj zemlji Gambiji.

Tedros je rekao da UN-ova agencija provodi istragu s indijskim regulatorima i tvrtkom koja je proizvela sirupe Maiden Pharmaceuticals.

Maiden Pharma je odbila komentirati, dok su pozivi i poruke glavnom indijskom regulatoru za lijekove ostali bez odgovora. Indijsko ministarstvo zdravstva nije odgovorilo na zahtjev za kom...
