Amerikancu koji je bio u terminalnoj fazi bolesti srca presađeno je genetski modificirano srce svinje u prvoj operaciji te vrste i tri dana poslije operacije pacijent se dobro oporavlja, objavili su njegovi liječnici u ponedjeljak.   

Operacija koju je izveo tim Sveučilišta Maryland Medicine među prvim je takvim operacijama koje imaju za cilj pokazati izvedivost transplantacije srca svinje u čovjekov organizam, što je područje koje je postalo moguće zahvaljujući novim alatima za "uređivanje" gena.    

Pokaže li se ova transplantacija uspješnom znanstvenici se nadaju da će organi svinje uspješno nadomjestiti nedostatak donatorskih ljudskih organa.  

"Ovo je bila revolucionarna operacija koja nas je dovela stepenicu bliže rješavanju krize nedostatka ljudskih organa. Jednostavno nema dovoljno ljudskih srca u donatorskim zalihama kako bi se ispunila dugačka lista potencijalnih pacijenata koji ih trebaju", rekao je dr Bartley Griffith, koji je izveo operaciju ugrađivanja srca svinje čovjeku.

"Oprezno nastavljamo, no optimistični smo da će ova prva operacija u svijetu ove vrste osigurati važnu novu opciju za pacijente u budućnosti", dodao je Griffith.

Za 57-ogodišnjeg Davida Bennetta iz Marylanda ova je transplantacija bila njegova posljednja šansa.

"Bilo je ili umrijeti ili ići na ovu transplantaciju. Želim živjeti. Znam da je ovo 'pucanj naslijepo', no to je moja posljednja šansa", kazao je Bennett dan prije opercije, prema priopćenju koje je objavilo sveučilište.

Kako bi moglo izvesti ovu eksperimentalnu operaciju sveučilište je prethodno hitno dobilo zeleno svjetlo Američke uprave za hranu i lijekove (FDA).

"FDA je koristila naše podatke i podatke eksperimentalne svinje kako bi odobrila transplantaciju u zadnjem stadiju srčane bolesti pacijenta koji nije imao nikakvu drugu opciju liječenja", kazao je dr Muhammad Mohiudinn, koji vodi sveučilišni program ksenotransplantacije, transplantacije životinjskih organa čovjeku.

Ostali organi svinje koji se istražuju za transplantaciju ljudima uključuju bubrege, jetru i pluća. Prethodni pokušaji transplantacije sa svinje na čovjeka nisu uspjeli zbog genetskih razlika koje su uzrokovale odbacivanje organa ili zbog virusa koji su predstavljali rizik od infekcije. Znanstvenici su se pozabavili tim problemom uklanjajući potencijalno štetne gene.

Oko 110.000 Amerikanaca trenutno čeka na transplantaciju organa, a više od 6.000 pacijenata umire godišnje ne dobivši potreban organ, pokazuju podaci stranice organdonor.gov.

Amerikancu koji je bio u terminalnoj fazi bolesti srca presađeno je genetski modificirano srce svinje u prvoj operaciji te vrste i tri dana poslije operacije pacijent se dobro oporavlja, objavili su njegovi liječnici u ponedjeljak.   

Operacija koju je izveo tim Sveučilišta Maryland Medicine među prvim je takvim operacijama koje imaju za cilj pokazati izvedivost transplantacije srca svinje u čovjekov organizam, što je područje koje je postalo moguće zahvaljujući novim alatima za "uređivanje" gena.    

Pokaže li se ova transplantacija uspješnom znanstvenici se nadaju da će organi svinje uspješno nadomjestiti nedostatak donatorskih ljudskih organa.  

"Ovo je bila revolucionarna operacija koja nas je dovela stepenicu bliže rješavanju krize nedostatka ljudskih organa. Jednostavno nema dovoljno ljudskih srca u donatorskim zalihama kako bi se ispunila dugačka lista potencijalnih pacijenata koji ih trebaju", rekao je dr Bartley Griffith, koji je izveo operaciju ugrađivanja srca svinje čovjeku.

"Oprezno nastavljamo, no optimistični smo da će ova prva operacija u svijetu ove vrste osigurati važnu novu opciju za pacijente u budućnosti", dodao je Griffith.

Za 57-ogodišnjeg Davida Bennetta iz Marylanda ova je transplantacija bila njegova posljednja šansa.

"Bilo je ili umrijeti ili ići na ovu transplantaciju. Želim živjeti. Znam da je ovo 'pucanj naslijepo', no to je moja posljednja šansa", kazao je Bennett dan prije opercije, prema priopćenju koje je objavilo sveučilište.

Kako bi moglo izvesti ovu eksperimentalnu operaciju sveučilište je prethodno hitno dobilo zeleno svjetlo Američke uprave za hranu i lijekove (FDA).

"FDA je koristila naše podatke i podatke eksperimentalne svinje kako bi odobrila transplantaciju u zadnjem stadiju srčane bolesti pacijenta koji nije imao nikakvu drugu opciju liječenja", kazao je dr Muhammad Mohiudinn, koji vodi sveučilišni program ksenotransplantacije, transplantacije životinjskih organa čovjeku.

Ostali organi svinje koji se istražuju za transplantaciju ljudima uključuju bubrege, jetru i pluća. Prethodni pokušaji transplantacije sa svinje na čovjeka nisu uspjeli zbog genetskih razlika koje su uzrokovale odbacivanje organa ili zbog virusa koji su predstavljali rizik od infekcije. Znanstvenici su se pozabavili tim problemom uklanjajući potencijalno štetne gene.

Oko 110.000 Amerikanaca trenutno čeka na transplantaciju organa, a više od 6.000 pacijenata umire godišnje ne dobivši potreban organ, pokazuju podaci stranice organdonor.gov.

Amerikancu u terminalnoj fazi bolesti srca presađeno genetski modificirano srce svinje, trenutno se oporavlja od operacije

Amerikancu koji je bio u terminalnoj fazi bolesti srca presađeno je genetski modificirano srce svinje u prvoj operaciji te vrste i tri dana poslije operacije pacijent se dobro oporavlja, objavili su njegovi liječnici u ponedjeljak.   

Operacija koju je izveo tim Sveučilišta Maryland Medicine među prvim je takvim operacijama koje imaju za cilj pokazati izvedivost transplantacije srca svinje u čovjekov organizam, što je područje koje je postalo moguće zahvaljujući novim alatima za "uređivanje" gena.    

Pokaže li se ova transplantacija uspješnom znanstvenici se nadaju da će organi svinje uspješno nadomjestiti nedostatak donatorskih ljudskih organa.
