Nije teško pobucati misli: danima najave izvještaja s grobišta kazuju kako obitelji posvećuju počivališta svojih bližnjih jer je blagdan Svih svetih, dapače, dometne se i kako je riječ o spomendanu za mrtve. Što je onda Dan mrvtih, Dušni dan ili kako ga se u Dalmaciji od davnina naziva Mrtvi dan?

Naši stari znali su razliku: Svi sveti bili su veliki blagdan, dan slavlja, dapače, pučki naziv mu je bio "Mali Božić".

Uoči blagdana bio je post, a tog dana ljudi su išli na svečanu misu, oblačili misnu odjeću, ručak je bio slavljenički. A tek u sumrak Svisveta odlazili su na groblja i po starom običaju zvonili cijelu noć u spomen na pokojne.

To je od davnine poznata vigilija ili bdijenje: po židovskom računanju vremena, novi dan počinjao je sa zalaskom sunca tog dana, a takvo računanje vremena opstalo je u kršćanskoj liturgiji.

Sutradan, na Mrtvi dan, također su bili na grobljima, misi za pokojne, a doma su se molili i palili lumini za duše pokojnih predaka, prijatelja i kumova.

Porijeklo u Antiohiji

Svetkovina Svih svetih slavi se od četvrtog stoljeća, a porijeklo blagdana je u važnom kršćanskom središtu Antiohiji, u današnjoj Siriji, gdje se blagdan svih svetih mučenika obilježavao prve nedjelje po Duhovima.

Dva stoljeća kasnije i u Rimu se počinje slaviti ovaj blagdan, papa Bonifacije IV. premjestio je datum slavlja na 13. svibnja, kad je poganski hram Pantheon - posvećen svim rimskim bogovima - pretvorio u crkvu na čast Bogorodici i svetim mučenicima.

Papa Grgur IV. premjestio je 835. svetkovinu Svih svetih na 1. studenoga. Spominju se dva razloga: kako bi udovojio zahtjevu uglednih irskih monaha da se "smjesti" na dan kad su Kelti, koji su tek obraćali na kršćanstvo, svetkovali Samhain, obilježavajući svoju Novu godinu.

Taj je poganski blagdan ipak "preživio" do danas u vidu visoko komercijalizirane "Noći vještica".

Bilo je lakše osigurati hranu

Drugi razlog mogao bi biti pragmatičniji: nakon ljetne žetve i jesenske berbe bilo je lakše osigurati hranu i piće za mase hodočasnika koji su stizali u Rim.

Tog dana kršćani slave svece i svetice koje je Crkva kanonizirala, te one koji nisu proglašeni svetima, ali su svojim životom ostvarili ideal kršćanskog života te su njihove duše ušle u kraljevstvo Božje.

Dušni dan ili Dan svih vjernih mrtvih izraz je kršćanske nade i vjere u zagrobni život i zapravo je to "njihov dan" kad bi trebalo pohoditi groblja, no suvremeni način života "pomiješao" je ova dva dana, pa se dogodi da su groblja na Dušni dan često pusta.

Premda su kršćani od davnina pohodili grobove svojih pokojnika u dane iza blagdana Svih Svetih, spomen vjernih mrtvih počeo se obilježavati u čuvenoj benediktinskoj opatiji Cluny u Francuskoj na inicijativu opata sv. Odilona 998. godine, a papa je spomendan službeno potvrdio 1311. godine.

Nije teško pobucati misli: danima najave izvještaja s grobišta kazuju kako obitelji posvećuju počivališta svojih bližnjih jer je blagdan Svih svetih, dapače, dometne se i kako je riječ o spomendanu za mrtve. Što je onda Dan mrvtih, Dušni dan ili kako ga se u Dalmaciji od davnina naziva Mrtvi dan?

Naši stari znali su razliku: Svi sveti bili su veliki blagdan, dan slavlja, dapače, pučki naziv mu je bio "Mali Božić".

Uoči blagdana bio je post, a tog dana ljudi su išli na svečanu misu, oblačili misnu odjeću, ručak je bio slavljenički. A tek u sumrak Svisveta odlazili su na groblja i po starom običaju zvonili cijelu noć u spomen na pokojne.

To je od davnine poznata vigilija ili bdijenje: po židovskom računanju vremena, novi dan počinjao je sa zalaskom sunca tog dana, a takvo računanje vremena opstalo je u kršćanskoj liturgiji.

Sutradan, na Mrtvi dan, također su bili na grobljima, misi za pokojne, a doma su se molili i palili lumini za duše pokojnih predaka, prijatelja i kumova.

Porijeklo u Antiohiji

Svetkovina Svih svetih slavi se od četvrtog stoljeća, a porijeklo blagdana je u važnom kršćanskom središtu Antiohiji, u današnjoj Siriji, gdje se blagdan svih svetih mučenika obilježavao prve nedjelje po Duhovima.

Dva stoljeća kasnije i u Rimu se počinje slaviti ovaj blagdan, papa Bonifacije IV. premjestio je datum slavlja na 13. svibnja, kad je poganski hram Pantheon - posvećen svim rimskim bogovima - pretvorio u crkvu na čast Bogorodici i svetim mučenicima.

Papa Grgur IV. premjestio je 835. svetkovinu Svih svetih na 1. studenoga. Spominju se dva razloga: kako bi udovojio zahtjevu uglednih irskih monaha da se "smjesti" na dan kad su Kelti, koji su tek obraćali na kršćanstvo, svetkovali Samhain, obilježavajući svoju Novu godinu.

Taj je poganski blagdan ipak "preživio" do danas u vidu visoko komercijalizirane "Noći vještica".

Bilo je lakše osigurati hranu

Drugi razlog mogao bi biti pragmatičniji: nakon ljetne žetve i jesenske berbe bilo je lakše osigurati hranu i piće za mase hodočasnika koji su stizali u Rim.

Tog dana kršćani slave svece i svetice koje je Crkva kanonizirala, te one koji nisu proglašeni svetima, ali su svojim životom ostvarili ideal kršćanskog života te su njihove duše ušle u kraljevstvo Božje.

Dušni dan ili Dan svih vjernih mrtvih izraz je kršćanske nade i vjere u zagrobni život i zapravo je to "njihov dan" kad bi trebalo pohoditi groblja, no suvremeni način života "pomiješao" je ova dva dana, pa se dogodi da su groblja na Dušni dan često pusta.

Premda su kršćani od davnina pohodili grobove svojih pokojnika u dane iza blagdana Svih Svetih, spomen vjernih mrtvih počeo se obilježavati u čuvenoj benediktinskoj opatiji Cluny u Francuskoj na inicijativu opata sv. Odilona 998. godine, a papa je spomendan službeno potvrdio 1311. godine.
