Neočekivani trijumf Camile Giorgi u Montrealu na WTA 1000 turniru još je jedna potvrda fenomenalnog sportskog ljeta za Italiju. Nogometaši su prvaci Europe, na Olimpijskim igrama u Tokiju ta je zemlja osvojila rekordnih 40 medalja uz senzacionalna zlata u skoku u vis, 100 metara i štafeti 4x100, a u tenisu je Matteo Berrettini igrao finale Wimbledona, čudo od djeteta Jannik Sinner osvojio je Washington i sada je Giorgi došla do najvećeg naslova u karijeri. 

Iako Talijanka nije “no name” igračica i već je dugo na WTA Touru, njezin čarobni tjedan u Kanadi veliko je iznenađenje. Prije tog turnira bila je 71. na listi sa samo dva osvojena turnira u karijeri i jednim četvrtfinalom Grand Slama (Wimbledon 2018.), a u kategoriji 1000 nikada nije igrala dalje od osmine finala.

U Tokiju najavila velike stvari

Ipak, tijekom travnate sezone pobijedila je Karolinu Pliškovu i Arinu Sabalenku, a na Olimpijskim igrama u Tokiju dogurala je do četvrtfinala i dala naslutiti da slijedi nešto još veće. Tako je i bilo. U Montrealu je nanizala Mertens, Podorosku, Kvitovu, Gauff, Pegulu i u finalu opet Pliškovu, već treći put ovog ljeta. I evo je sada na 34. mjestu svjetske ljestvice, nadomak najboljeg plasmana (26.) prije tri godine.

Gledajući 29-godišnjakinju iz Macerate nadomak Ancone kako nasmijana pozira fotoreporterima s trofejem u rukama, mnogima je bilo drago što je napokon okrunila karijeru nakon mnogo patnji koje je prošla u životu. Prvenstveno se to odnosi na tragediju iz 2011. kada je njezina starija sestra Antonela izgubila život u prometnoj nesreći u Parizu, ali i na konstantne sumnje i predrasude javnosti zbog toga što ju trenira otac Sergio koji se nikada nije bavio tenisom. 

Borba protiv Britanaca

Mnogi su smatrali kako bi postigla puno više da je imala “pravog” stručnjaka uz sebe, no s druge strane taj ju je čovjek odveo do Topa 30, što je izniman uspjeh. Sergio, koji se borio u Falklandskom ratu 1982. protiv Britanaca, prilično je temperamentan i svojeglav, neki će reći ekscentrik i ludast. Ni on ni Camila nikad se nisu uklapali u neke zadane okvire pa su se, djelomično i zbog toga, često nalazili u sukobima s Talijanskim teniskim savezom.

To je kulminiralo 2016. kada je Giorgi odbila igrati u Fed Cupu i tako ostala bez prava nastupa na Olimpijskim igrama u Rio de Janeiru. Dvije godine kasnije shvatila je da je pogriješila te se vratila pod talijanski stijeg, a ranije u karijeri razmišljala je o igranju za Izrael (dobila ponudu tamošnjeg saveza) i Argentinu, zemlju njezinih roditelja. 

Iako je kao mala briljirala u gimnastici, Camila se zaljubila u tenis. Obećavala je od početka - Nick Bollettieri ponudio joj je 2000. godine stipendiju koju je odbila jer je bila premlada, a slavni talijanski tenisač Adriano Panatta usporedio ju je tada s Andreom Agassijem - no njezin stil igre često joj je bio neprijatelj. Udara jako s osnovne linije, nerijetko bez plana B. Ili je “winner” ili je neprisiljena pogreška. Nema između. 

Kad ulazi - mete

Kad bi ulazilo, pobjeđivala bi Šarapovu, Azarenku, Muguruzu, Wozniacki, Pliškovu, Radwansku i Svitolinu, ali nikada nije bila dovoljno konzistentna pa bi redovito nakon takvih pobjeda gubila odmah u sljedećoj rundi. Ovog se tjedna to nije dogodilo.

Istančanog smisla za modu, što je zasluga njezine majke Claudije, modne dizajnerice čije kreacije često nosi na mečevima, Camila Giorgi oduvijek je bila svoja, drukčija. A takvi često u današnjem svijetu nisu shvaćeni. No osim modnim izričajem i izgledom, pažnju opet počinje privlačiti i rezultatima te se čini spremnom za novi iskorak, na Grand Slamu. Možda već do kraja ove 2021. godine koja je za talijanski sport jedna od najljepših u novijoj povijesti.

Neočekivani trijumf Camile Giorgi u Montrealu na WTA 1000 turniru još je jedna potvrda fenomenalnog sportskog ljeta za Italiju. Nogometaši su prvaci Europe, na Olimpijskim igrama u Tokiju ta je zemlja osvojila rekordnih 40 medalja uz senzacionalna zlata u skoku u vis, 100 metara i štafeti 4x100, a u tenisu je Matteo Berrettini igrao finale Wimbledona, čudo od djeteta Jannik Sinner osvojio je Washington i sada je Giorgi došla do najvećeg naslova u karijeri. 

Iako Talijanka nije “no name” igračica i već je dugo na WTA Touru, njezin čarobni tjedan u Kanadi veliko je iznenađenje. Prije tog turnira bila je 71. na listi sa samo dva osvojena turnira u karijeri i jednim četvrtfinalom Grand Slama (Wimbledon 2018.), a u kategoriji 1000 nikada nije igrala dalje od osmine finala.

U Tokiju najavila velike stvari

Ipak, tijekom travnate sezone pobijedila je Karolinu Pliškovu i Arinu Sabalenku, a na Olimpijskim igrama u Tokiju dogurala je do četvrtfinala i dala naslutiti da slijedi nešto još veće. Tako je i bilo. U Montrealu je nanizala Mertens, Podorosku, Kvitovu, Gauff, Pegulu i u finalu opet Pliškovu, već treći put ovog ljeta. I evo je sada na 34. mjestu svjetske ljestvice, nadomak najboljeg plasmana (26.) prije tri godine.

Gledajući 29-godišnjakinju iz Macerate nadomak Ancone kako nasmijana pozira fotoreporterima s trofejem u rukama, mnogima je bilo drago što je napokon okrunila karijeru nakon mnogo patnji koje je prošla u životu. Prvenstveno se to odnosi na tragediju iz 2011. kada je njezina starija sestra Antonela izgubila život u prometnoj nesreći u Parizu, ali i na konstantne sumnje i predrasude javnosti zbog toga što ju trenira otac Sergio koji se nikada nije bavio tenisom. 

Borba protiv Britanaca

Mnogi su smatrali kako bi postigla puno više da je imala “pravog” stručnjaka uz sebe, no s druge strane taj ju je čovjek odveo do Topa 30, što je izniman uspjeh. Sergio, koji se borio u Falklandskom ratu 1982. protiv Britanaca, prilično je temperamentan i svojeglav, neki će reći ekscentrik i ludast. Ni on ni Camila nikad se nisu uklapali u neke zadane okvire pa su se, djelomično i zbog toga, često nalazili u sukobima s Talijanskim teniskim savezom.

To je kulminiralo 2016. kada je Giorgi odbila igrati u Fed Cupu i tako ostala bez prava nastupa na Olimpijskim igrama u Rio de Janeiru. Dvije godine kasnije shvatila je da je pogriješila te se vratila pod talijanski stijeg, a ranije u karijeri razmišljala je o igranju za Izrael (dobila ponudu tamošnjeg saveza) i Argentinu, zemlju njezinih roditelja. 

Iako je kao mala briljirala u gimnastici, Camila se zaljubila u tenis. Obećavala je od početka - Nick Bollettieri ponudio joj je 2000. godine stipendiju koju je odbila jer je bila premlada, a slavni talijanski tenisač Adriano Panatta usporedio ju je tada s Andreom Agassijem - no njezin stil igre često joj je bio neprijatelj. Udara jako s osnovne linije, nerijetko bez plana B. Ili je “winner” ili je neprisiljena pogreška. Nema između. 

Kad ulazi - mete

Kad bi ulazilo, pobjeđivala bi Šarapovu, Azarenku, Muguruzu, Wozniacki, Pliškovu, Radwansku i Svitolinu, ali nikada nije bila dovoljno konzistentna pa bi redovito nakon takvih pobjeda gubila odmah u sljedećoj rundi. Ovog se tjedna to nije dogodilo.

Istančanog smisla za modu, što je zasluga njezine majke Claudije, modne dizajnerice čije kreacije često nosi na mečevima, Camila Giorgi oduvijek je bila svoja, drukčija. A takvi često u današnjem svijetu nisu shvaćeni. No osim modnim izričajem i izgledom, pažnju opet počinje privlačiti i rezultatima te se čini spremnom za novi iskorak, na Grand Slamu. Možda već do kraja ove 2021. godine koja je za talijanski sport jedna od najljepših u novijoj povijesti.
