Jedan od najboljih nogometaša u povijesti Kostarike, srednjoameričke države s 5 milijuna stanovnika, bio je igrač hrvatskog porijekla Jose Rafael "Fello" Meza Ivankovich čije ima nosi stadion u tamošnjem gradu Cartageni, izvijestile su kostarikanske novine La Nacion.
Nogometna reprezentacija Hrvatske osvojila je prije dva tjedna brončanu medalju na Svjetskom prvenstvu što je potaknulo taj dnevnik da podsjeti čitatelje na nogometaša koji je obilježio prošlost nogometa u Kostariki.
Ta zemlja bogate prirode, omeđena Karipskim morem i Pacifičkim oceanom, jedan je od najvećih svjetskih izvoznika ananasa i banana.
La Nacion naziva Ivankovicha "maestrom".
On je bio potomak imigranta Nicolasa Miguela Ivankovića Trojanovića rođenog u Hrvatskoj godine 1850.
Ivanković Trojanović došao je u Kostariku u dobi od 24 godine, zajedno s grupom Hrvata. Među njima je bio i Juan Orlich (Ivan Orlić) čiji će potomak Francisco Orlich biti predsjednik Kostarike od 1962. do 1966. godine.
Ivanković Trojanović, ili "Mijo" kako su ga zvali u Hrvatskoj, stigao je u grad Cartagenu te se ondje bavio trgovinom. U tom bivšem glavnom gradu oženio se lokalnom djevojkom Camilom Fernandez Ruiz. U njihovom braku rođena je Rafaela Ivankovich Fernandez, majka budućeg nogometaša.
Mladi napadač Ivankovich rodio se 1920. a loptu je počeo udarati u lokalnom prvoligašu Cartaginesu, klubu čije ime znači "stanovnik Cartagene". S napunjenih 20 godina, noseći plavo-bijeli dres te momčadi, osvojio je naslov prvaka Kostarike. Pritom je bio najbolji strijelac prvenstva.
Iskazao se zatim u trima utakmicama protiv argentinskog Estudiantesa iz La Plate kojem je zabio ukupno pet golova. Estudiantes ga je htio dovesti no Cartagines je odbio ponudu.
Ivankovich je igrao i za reprezentaciju Kostarike s kojom je 1941. godine osvojio prvenstvo Srednje Amerike i Kariba. U sedam utakmica zabio je jedanaest golova.
Prešao je te iste godine u meksički klub Moctezumu pa s 21 zabijenim pogotkom u 12 utakmica bio i najbolji strijelac tamošnjeg prvenstva.
Nakon sezone provedene u Meksiku ipak je završio u argentinskom Estudiantesu. Igrao je kasnije u meksičkom Atlanteu s kojim je bio nacionalni prvak a također je osvojio prvenstvo Hondurasa s Aduanom de Telo. Sezonu je proveo i u kolumbijskom Universidadu de Bogoti.
Godine 1954. vratio se u Cartagines, a karijeru je okončao u kostarikanskom Heredianu tri godine kasnije. Oprostio se s peharom prvaka u rukama.
"On je volio Hrvatsku, uvijek je imao poseban osjećaj za nju", rekao je njegov sin koji se također zove Meza Ivankovich i koji je bio nogometaš. "Bio je ponosan na svoje hrvatske korijene. Htio je posjetiti i upoznati Hrvatsku no zbog raznih razloga bio je spriječen. Ta želja mu se stoga nikada nije ispunila", dodao je.
Napadač Ivankovich je nakon igračke karijere bio trener u više klubova za koje je igrao.
Klub Cartagines, koji se na svojoj internetskoj stranici hvali da ima najvjernije navijače u zemlji, stadion je nazvao po njemu 1973. godine.
Ivankovich je preminuo 1988. u dobi od 68 godina.
Kostarika, s dugom nogometnom tradicijom, nadala se ovaj mjesec uspjehu na Svjetskom prvenstvu u Katru. No momčad predvođena vratarem PSG-a Keylorom Navasom, bivšim suigračem Luke Modrića u Real Madridu, nije prošla skupinu u konkurenciji sa Španjolskom, Japanom i Njemačkom.
Na Svjetskom prvenstvu 2014. godine bila je stigla do četvrtfinala gdje ju je pobijedila Nizozemska boljim izvođenjem jedanaesteraca.

Jedan od najboljih nogometaša u povijesti Kostarike, srednjoameričke države s 5 milijuna stanovnika, bio je igrač hrvatskog porijekla Jose Rafael "Fello" Meza Ivankovich čije ima nosi stadion u tamošnjem gradu Cartageni, izvijestile su kostarikanske novine La Nacion.
Nogometna reprezentacija Hrvatske osvojila je prije dva tjedna brončanu medalju na Svjetskom prvenstvu što je potaknulo taj dnevnik da podsjeti čitatelje na nogometaša koji je obilježio prošlost nogometa u Kostariki.
Ta zemlja bogate prirode, omeđena Karipskim morem i Pacifičkim oceanom, jedan je od najvećih svjetskih izvoznika ananasa i banana.
La Nacion naziva Ivankovicha "maestrom".
On je bio potomak imigranta Nicolasa Miguela Ivankovića Trojanovića rođenog u Hrvatskoj godine 1850.
Ivanković Trojanović došao je u Kostariku u dobi od 24 godine, zajedno s grupom Hrvata. Među njima je bio i Juan Orlich (Ivan Orlić) čiji će potomak Francisco Orlich biti predsjednik Kostarike od 1962. do 1966. godine.
Ivanković Trojanović, ili "Mijo" kako su ga zvali u Hrvatskoj, stigao je u grad Cartagenu te se ondje bavio trgovinom. U tom bivšem glavnom gradu oženio se lokalnom djevojkom Camilom Fernandez Ruiz. U njihovom braku rođena je Rafaela Ivankovich Fernandez, majka budućeg nogometaša.
Mladi napadač Ivankovich rodio se 1920. a loptu je počeo udarati u lokalnom prvoligašu Cartaginesu, klubu čije ime znači "stanovnik Cartagene". S napunjenih 20 godina, noseći plavo-bijeli dres te momčadi, osvojio je naslov prvaka Kostarike. Pritom je bio najbolji strijelac prvenstva.
Iskazao se zatim u trima utakmicama protiv argentinskog Estudiantesa iz La Plate kojem je zabio ukupno pet golova. Estudiantes ga je htio dovesti no Cartagines je odbio ponudu.
Ivankovich je igrao i za reprezentaciju Kostarike s kojom je 1941. godine osvojio prvenstvo Srednje Amerike i Kariba. U sedam utakmica zabio je jedanaest golova.
Prešao je te iste godine u meksički klub Moctezumu pa s 21 zabijenim pogotkom u 12 utakmica bio i najbolji strijelac tamošnjeg prvenstva.
Nakon sezone provedene u Meksiku ipak je završio u argentinskom Estudiantesu. Igrao je kasnije u meksičkom Atlanteu s kojim je bio nacionalni prvak a također je osvojio prvenstvo Hondurasa s Aduanom de Telo. Sezonu je proveo i u kolumbijskom Universidadu de Bogoti.
Godine 1954. vratio se u Cartagines, a karijeru je okončao u kostarikanskom Heredianu tri godine kasnije. Oprostio se s peharom prvaka u rukama.
"On je volio Hrvatsku, uvijek je imao poseban osjećaj za nju", rekao je njegov sin koji se također zove Meza Ivankovich i koji je bio nogometaš. "Bio je ponosan na svoje hrvatske korijene. Htio je posjetiti i upoznati Hrvatsku no zbog raznih razloga bio je spriječen. Ta želja mu se stoga nikada nije ispunila", dodao je.
Napadač Ivankovich je nakon igračke karijere bio trener u više klubova za koje je igrao.
Klub Cartagines, koji se na svojoj internetskoj stranici hvali da ima najvjernije navijače u zemlji, stadion je nazvao po njemu 1973. godine.
Ivankovich je preminuo 1988. u dobi od 68 godina.
Kostarika, s dugom nogometnom tradicijom, nadala se ovaj mjesec uspjehu na Svjetskom prvenstvu u Katru. No momčad predvođena vratarem PSG-a Keylorom Navasom, bivšim suigračem Luke Modrića u Real Madridu, nije prošla skupinu u konkurenciji sa Španjolskom, Japanom i Njemačkom.
Na Svjetskom prvenstvu 2014. godine bila je stigla do četvrtfinala gdje ju je pobijedila Nizozemska boljim izvođenjem jedanaesteraca.
