Brodovi na južnome dijelu Tihoga oceana dobili su obavijest da im prijete stotine ledenjaka koji su se odlomili s Antarktike i sad plutaju na sjever prema Novome Zelandu, službeno je objavljeno u utorak.

Najbliži Novome Zelandu trideset je metara visok i nalazi se 260 kilometara jugoistočno od Stewartova otoka. On je samo dio "flotile" ledenjaka koje je uočio satelit, rekao je australski glaciolog Neal Young.

Prije tri godine hladno vrijeme i povoljne oceanske struje prvi su put u 75 godina dovele ledenjake u blizinu Novoga Zelanda.

Novozelandske pomorske vlasti izdaju navigacijska upozorenja za područje južno od te države.

- Izdano je upozorenje o potencijalnoj opasnosti, treba biti na oprezu - kaže glasnogovornica pomorske uprave Sophie Hazelhurst.

Ondje nema važnih plovnih putova niti područja za ribarenje, ali korita većine brodova nisu dobro zaštićena za sudar s ledenjakom kojemu je devedesetak posto mase pod vodom.

Young kaže da satelitske snimke pokazuju skupine ledenjaka na površini većoj od 700.000 četvornih kilometara, kako se na strujama udaljavanju od Antarktike.

Veliki broj ledenjaka posljednji je put došao blizu Novomu Zelandu 2006. kad su se mogli vidjeti s obale. Prije toga, tako blizu ledenjaci su uočeni još davne 1931.

Brodovi na južnome dijelu Tihoga oceana dobili su obavijest da im prijete stotine ledenjaka koji su se odlomili s Antarktike i sad plutaju na sjever prema Novome Zelandu, službeno je objavljeno u utorak.

Najbliži Novome Zelandu trideset je metara visok i nalazi se 260 kilometara jugoistočno od Stewartova otoka. On je samo dio "flotile" ledenjaka koje je uočio satelit, rekao je australski glaciolog Neal Young.

Prije tri godine hladno vrijeme i povoljne oceanske struje prvi su put u 75 godina dovele ledenjake u blizinu Novoga Zelanda.

Novozelandske pomorske vlasti izdaju navigacijska upozorenja za područje južno od te države.

- Izdano je upozorenje o potencijalnoj opasnosti, treba biti na oprezu - kaže glasnogovornica pomorske uprave Sophie Hazelhurst.

Ondje nema važnih plovnih putova niti područja za ribarenje, ali korita većine brodova nisu dobro zaštićena za sudar s ledenjakom kojemu je devedesetak posto mase pod vodom.

Young kaže da satelitske snimke pokazuju skupine ledenjaka na površini većoj od 700.000 četvornih kilometara, kako se na strujama udaljavanju od Antarktike.

Veliki broj ledenjaka posljednji je put došao blizu Novomu Zelandu 2006. kad su se mogli vidjeti s obale. Prije toga, tako blizu ledenjaci su uočeni još davne 1931.
