Bio je 3. travnja. Prije 38 godina. Cibona je u Pireju osvojila te 1985. godine naslov prvaka Europe, a obranila ga je godinu dana poslije, opet 3. travnja, i to u Budimpešti. U grčkoj luci dobila je u finalu Real Madrid s 87:78, a u glavnom gradu Mađarske Žalgiris 94:82. 

Heja, heja Cibosi – pjevalo se nakon oba finala. Uz Cibonu su bile tisuće navijača. Cibona je imala brojniju podršku i u finalu u dvorani Mira i prijateljstva, koje je pratilo više od 16.000 gledatelja, kao i u budimpeštanskom sportskom centru gdje se natiskalo 12.500 gledatelja.

I u oba ta uspjeha ‘prste‘ su umiješali i Dubrovčani. Dvojica su bila u Pireju, i obojica su igrala finale protiv Real Madrida, i Andro Knego, kapetan, član prve petorke, ali na kraju i Adnan Bečić, koji je bio dio momčadi koja je slavila i godinu poslije. Knego je u ljeto 1985. napustio Cibonu u koju je stigao 1973. godine te karijeru nastavio u Španjolskoj. Istina, nakon sezone se opet vratio pod Toranj, u redove ‘Vukova‘. Bečić je ‘Vuk‘ postao 1979. godine i bio vjeran Ciboni do kraja igračke karijere. Obojica su ponikla u Karmenu, u dresu Košarkaškog kluba Jug (danas Dubrovnika), i obojica su prvi europski trofej s Cibonom osvojila već 1982. godine. Tad je Cibona dobila finale Kupa pobjednika kupova Europe, i to je u Bruxellesu, i tad je bila bolja od Reala, i to nakon produžetka s 96:95. Briljirao je tad Knego. Bio prvo ime tog također nezaboravnog finala. Drugi put je Kup pobjednika kupova Europe Cibona uzela 1987. kad je savladala Scavolini u finalu odigranom u Novom Sadu s 89:74. Bečić je bio dio momčadi koja je osvojila sve te europske trofeje zagrebačkog kluba.

Mirko Novosel ih je doveo u Zagreb. Knego je u Pireju imao čast podići pokal.

- Bilo je to djelo Mirka Novosela. Bila je to kruna njegovog rada - ispričao je Knego, te se prisjetio 3. travnja 1985. u Pireju.

- Mene su podigli skupa s pokalom. Priznat ću vam, bio sam u strahu kad sam trebao podići pokal prvaka Europe, a znate li zašto? Pokal Kupa pobjednika kupova Europe, koji smo osvojili tri godine prije, 1982. godine, bio je od porculana, te sastavljen od dva dijela. Taj drugi dio, poklopac, mi je odletio, te se razbio kad sam ga podigao od sreće u Bruxellesu. Tako kad sam imao podignuti pokal za prvaka Europe bojao sam se da i on nije od dva dijela, ali, srećom, nije – nasmijao se Knego prisjećajući se tog nezaboravnog trenutka u Pireju.

Otišao je danas u 86. godini života Novosel, trenerski velikan.

- Bojali smo ga se. Imao je autoritet znanja i rezultata, pa smo ga morali slušati – prisjetio se Knego, koji je s Novoselom na trima Olimpijskim igrama osvojio tri medalje – srebro 1976. u Montrealu, zlato 1980. u Moskvi, te broncu 1984. u Los Angelesu. Novosel je član Kuće slavnih, jedan od najboljih košarkaških trenera svih vremena...

Bio je 3. travnja. Prije 38 godina. Cibona je u Pireju osvojila te 1985. godine naslov prvaka Europe, a obranila ga je godinu dana poslije, opet 3. travnja, i to u Budimpešti. U grčkoj luci dobila je u finalu Real Madrid s 87:78, a u glavnom gradu Mađarske Žalgiris 94:82. 

Heja, heja Cibosi – pjevalo se nakon oba finala. Uz Cibonu su bile tisuće navijača. Cibona je imala brojniju podršku i u finalu u dvorani Mira i prijateljstva, koje je pratilo više od 16.000 gledatelja, kao i u budimpeštanskom sportskom centru gdje se natiskalo 12.500 gledatelja.

I u oba ta uspjeha ‘prste‘ su umiješali i Dubrovčani. Dvojica su bila u Pireju, i obojica su igrala finale protiv Real Madrida, i Andro Knego, kapetan, član prve petorke, ali na kraju i Adnan Bečić, koji je bio dio momčadi koja je slavila i godinu poslije. Knego je u ljeto 1985. napustio Cibonu u koju je stigao 1973. godine te karijeru nastavio u Španjolskoj. Istina, nakon sezone se opet vratio pod Toranj, u redove ‘Vukova‘. Bečić je ‘Vuk‘ postao 1979. godine i bio vjeran Ciboni do kraja igračke karijere. Obojica su ponikla u Karmenu, u dresu Košarkaškog kluba Jug (danas Dubrovnika), i obojica su prvi europski trofej s Cibonom osvojila već 1982. godine. Tad je Cibona dobila finale Kupa pobjednika kupova Europe, i to je u Bruxellesu, i tad je bila bolja od Reala, i to nakon produžetka s 96:95. Briljirao je tad Knego. Bio prvo ime tog također nezaboravnog finala. Drugi put je Kup pobjednika kupova Europe Cibona uzela 1987. kad je savladala Scavolini u finalu odigranom u Novom Sadu s 89:74. Bečić je bio dio momčadi koja je osvojila sve te europske trofeje zagrebačkog kluba.

Mirko Novosel ih je doveo u Zagreb. Knego je u Pireju imao čast podići pokal.

- Bilo je to djelo Mirka Novosela. Bila je to kruna njegovog rada - ispričao je Knego, te se prisjetio 3. travnja 1985. u Pireju.

- Mene su podigli skupa s pokalom. Priznat ću vam, bio sam u strahu kad sam trebao podići pokal prvaka Europe, a znate li zašto? Pokal Kupa pobjednika kupova Europe, koji smo osvojili tri godine prije, 1982. godine, bio je od porculana, te sastavljen od dva dijela. Taj drugi dio, poklopac, mi je odletio, te se razbio kad sam ga podigao od sreće u Bruxellesu. Tako kad sam imao podignuti pokal za prvaka Europe bojao sam se da i on nije od dva dijela, ali, srećom, nije – nasmijao se Knego prisjećajući se tog nezaboravnog trenutka u Pireju.

Otišao je danas u 86. godini života Novosel, trenerski velikan.

- Bojali smo ga se. Imao je autoritet znanja i rezultata, pa smo ga morali slušati – prisjetio se Knego, koji je s Novoselom na trima Olimpijskim igrama osvojio tri medalje – srebro 1976. u Montrealu, zlato 1980. u Moskvi, te broncu 1984. u Los Angelesu. Novosel je član Kuće slavnih, jedan od najboljih košarkaških trenera svih vremena...
