Whether you believe that Marco Polo was born or lived or spent his childhood on the island of Korčula the islanders certainly do and they have opened a new museum to celebrate their hero. The Marco Polo museum opened last week in Korcula and it opens up the wonderful world of Marco Polo to the masses.The famous adventurer tracked across Europe and Asia and in the 13th century explored the depths of China. Visitors to this new museum will pass through seven different scenes, which with all modern equipment and ultra realistic figures describe the journeys of Korcčula’s favourite son.The creator of the museum is Rudolf Petrinec who commented “I realised then that our tourism was lacking things that would enhance our cultural offerings and help increase the number of tourists” adding that the quality of the figures is the same as those used in Hollywood. He got the idea for the ultra modern Marco Polo museum after travelling the world and visiting famous and innovative museums.Entrance to the Marco Polo museum is 8 Euros or 60 Kunas, however in a unique twist Chinese guests can enter free of charge to keep up the tradition of Marco Polo’s adventure and to develop a friendship between the east and west.
