Nakon tjedana intenzivne seizmičke aktivnosti i erupcije vulkana na Islandu koja je stvorila pukotinu od 3,4 kilometara i ispušta lavu brzinom ekvivalentnoj punjenju olimpijskog bazena svakih 30 sekundi, meteorolozi sada strahuju od širenja iznimno štetnih plinova. Naime, sumporov dioksid koji se do sada raznosio iznad divljine, zbog promjene smjera vjetra mogao bi se prenijeti nad glavni grad Reykjavik, koji se nalazi 40 kilometara jugozapadno.
Erupcija je započela u ponedjeljak navečer na jugozapadu Islanda u Hagafellu, koji se nalazi na poluotoku Reykjanes, kako je izvijestio državni meteorološki ured, piše Jutarnji list.
Prije erupcije, vlasti su evakuirale 3800 ljudi iz obližnjeg ribarskog mjesta Grindavik zbog pojačane seizmičke aktivnosti i više od 230 zabilježenih potresa. Do utorka ujutro, protok lave se smanjio jer se duga pukotina počela konsolidirati u kratere.

Vulkanska eksplozija nadmašila je očekivanja znanstvenika. Istraživački odjel za vulkanologiju i prirodne opasnosti Sveučilišta Island, pokazao je da su mlazovi magme dosezali 100 metara visine. Lava je napredovala brzinom od 1 km na sat, a vulkan je ispustio oblak sumpornog dioksida, deset puta veći od prethodnih erupcija na Islandu.
U utorak je došlo do bojazni da bi promjena smjera vjetra od sjeverozapada prema jugozapadu mogla dovesti do zagađenja sumpornim dioksidom u Reykjaviku. Einar Sveinbjörnsson, meteorolog, rekao je za islandski Channel 2 da "nema sumnje da će ljudi to osjetiti". Meteorolozi su sugerirali da bi zagađenje bezbojnim i oštrim plinom moglo uzrokovati blagu respiratornu nelagodu, i potencijalno rezultirati kiselom kišom, iako ne na razinama štetnim za ljude ili poljoprivredu.
Deset dana erupcija
Islandski meteorološki ured rekao je da bi se "moglo otkriti zagađenje plinom" u glavnom gradu, ali nije sugerirao da bi to imalo ozbiljan utjecaj.
Unatoč zabrinutostima, veću štetu trenutno uzrokuje lava u blizini Grindavika. Improvizirane brane protiv lave u blizini geotermalne elektrane Svartsengi pomno se prate. Zračna luka Keflavik, udaljena manje od 16 kilometara, ostala je otvorena, iako su zabilježena neka kašnjenja.
Na Islandu se nalaze 33 aktivna vulkanska sustava - najveći broj u Europi. Poluotok Reykjanes nije doživio erupciju osam stoljeća do 2021. godine. Od tada su se dogodile tri erupcije - sve u udaljenim, nenaseljenim područjima. Vulkanolozi smatraju da bi to mogao biti početak nove ere aktivnosti u regiji.

Islandsko Ministarstvo vanjskih poslova ažuriralo je svoje savjete, pozivajući ljude da se drže podalje od trenutno pogođenog područja, ističući da Reykjavik i ostatak Islanda nisu izravno pogođeni. Turistička odredišta, poput geotermalnog lječilišta Blue Lagoon u blizini vulkana, zatvorena su. Toplice su tek bile ponovno otvorene nakon što su bile zatvorene više od mjesec dana od 9. studenog kada je područje pogodilo više od 1000 potresa u 24 sata. Za stanovnike Grindavika trenutno je dopušten samo ograničen pristup domovima.

Nakon tjedana intenzivne seizmičke aktivnosti i erupcije vulkana na Islandu koja je stvorila pukotinu od 3,4 kilometara i ispušta lavu brzinom ekvivalentnoj punjenju olimpijskog bazena svakih 30 sekundi, meteorolozi sada strahuju od širenja iznimno štetnih plinova. Naime, sumporov dioksid koji se do sada raznosio iznad divljine, zbog promjene smjera vjetra mogao bi se prenijeti nad glavni grad Reykjavik, koji se nalazi 40 kilometara jugozapadno.
Erupcija je započela u ponedjeljak navečer na jugozapadu Islanda u Hagafellu, koji se nalazi na poluotoku Reykjanes, kako je izvijestio državni meteorološki ured, piše Jutarnji list.
Prije erupcije, vlasti su evakuirale 3800 ljudi iz obližnjeg ribarskog mjesta Grindavik zbog pojačane seizmičke aktivnosti i više od 230 zabilježenih potresa. Do utorka ujutro, protok lave se smanjio jer se duga pukotina počela konsolidirati u kratere.

Vulkanska eksplozija nadmašila je očekivanja znanstvenika. Istraživački odjel za vulkanologiju i prirodne opasnosti Sveučilišta Island, pokazao je da su mlazovi magme dosezali 100 metara visine. Lava je napredovala brzinom od 1 km na sat, a vulkan je ispustio oblak sumpornog dioksida, deset puta veći od prethodnih erupcija na Islandu.
U utorak je došlo do bojazni da bi promjena smjera vjetra od sjeverozapada prema jugozapadu mogla dovesti do zagađenja sumpornim dioksidom u Reykjaviku. Einar Sveinbjörnsson, meteorolog, rekao je za islandski Channel 2 da "nema sumnje da će ljudi to osjetiti". Meteorolozi su sugerirali da bi zagađenje bezbojnim i oštrim plinom moglo uzrokovati blagu respiratornu nelagodu, i potencijalno rezultirati kiselom kišom, iako ne na razinama štetnim za ljude ili poljoprivredu.
Deset dana erupcija
Islandski meteorološki ured rekao je da bi se "moglo otkriti zagađenje plinom" u glavnom gradu, ali nije sugerirao da bi to imalo ozbiljan utjecaj.
Unatoč zabrinutostima, veću štetu trenutno uzrokuje lava u blizini Grindavika. Improvizirane brane protiv lave u blizini geotermalne elektrane Svartsengi pomno se prate. Zračna luka Keflavik, udaljena manje od 16 kilometara, ostala je otvorena, iako su zabilježena neka kašnjenja.
Na Islandu se nalaze 33 aktivna vulkanska sustava - najveći broj u Europi. Poluotok Reykjanes nije doživio erupciju osam stoljeća do 2021. godine. Od tada su se dogodile tri erupcije - sve u udaljenim, nenaseljenim područjima. Vulkanolozi smatraju da bi to mogao biti početak nove ere aktivnosti u regiji.

Islandsko Ministarstvo vanjskih poslova ažuriralo je svoje savjete, pozivajući ljude da se drže podalje od trenutno pogođenog područja, ističući da Reykjavik i ostatak Islanda nisu izravno pogođeni. Turistička odredišta, poput geotermalnog lječilišta Blue Lagoon u blizini vulkana, zatvorena su. Toplice su tek bile ponovno otvorene nakon što su bile zatvorene više od mjesec dana od 9. studenog kada je područje pogodilo više od 1000 potresa u 24 sata. Za stanovnike Grindavika trenutno je dopušten samo ograničen pristup domovima.
Prognostičari su naznačili da bi erupcija mogla trajati otprilike deset dana, piše Jutarnji list.
