Administracija američkog predsjednika Joea Bidena obećala je u četvrtak da će smanjiti emisije stakleničkih plinova za 50 do 52 posto do 2030. u odnosu na razine iz 2005., u nadi da će time potaknuti zemlje s visokim emisijama da se i one obvežu na odlučniju borbu protiv klimatskih promjena.

Cilj, objavljen na početku dvodnevnog samita o klimi kojemu je Biden domaćin, određen je jer SAD želi preuzeti globalno vodstvo u borbi protiv globalnog zagrijavanja nakon što je bivši predsjednik Donald Trump povukao zemlju iz Pariškog sporazuma o klimatskim promjenama. Biden je SAD službeno vratio u taj sporazum prije dva mjeseca.

Cilj označava i važnu prekretnicu u širem planu demokratskog američkog predsjednika za potpunu dekarbonizaciju američkog gospodarstva do 2050., što, tvrdi, može omogućiti otvaranje milijuna dobro plaćenih radnih mjesta, dok mnogi republikanci strahuju da će naštetiti gospodarstvu. 

Emisije bi trebale smanjiti termoelektrane, prometni i drugi sektori, ali Bijela kuća nije odredila posebne ciljeve za te industrije.

"Nijedna zemlja ne može riješiti ovu krizu sama, i ovaj samit korak je na putu prema sigurnoj, prosperitetnoj i održivoj budućnosti", poručio je Biden u tvitu pred početak samita.

Novi cilj gotovo je dvostruko veći od obećanja bivšeg predsjednika Baracka Obame da će smanjiti emisije za 26 do 28 posto do 2025. u odnosu na 2005. Sektorski ciljevi bit će određeni kasnije tijekom godine.

Kako SAD namjerava ostvariti svoje klimatske ciljeve bit će ključno za potvrdu američke vjerodostojnosti kad je riječ o globalnom zagrijavanju, s obzirom na to da međunarodna zajednica sumnja da se američka predanost čistoj energiji može drastično promijeniti sa smjenom administracija.

Biden je nedavno predstavio dva bilijuna američkih dolara vrijedan plan ulaganja u modernizaciju infrastrukture koji predviđa mnoge mjere koje bi mogle pridonijeti smanjenju emisija, uključujući uvođenje električnih vozila.

Ali mjere mora usvojiti Kongres da bi mogle biti provedene.

Svjetski čelnici žele ograničiti globalno zagrijavanje na 1,5 stupnjeva Celzijevih iznad predindustrijskih razina, što bi trebalo spriječiti najgore posljedice klimatskih promjena.

Japan je u četvrtak svoj cilj smanjenja emisije ugljika do 2030. povisio na 46 posto nakon pritiska SAD-a, domaćih tvrtki i aktivista za zaštitu okoliša koji su prethodni cilj od 26 posto smatrali neambicioznim.

Premijer Yoshihide Suga novi je cilj, u odnosu na razine iz 2013., objavio nekoliko sati uoči virtualnog samita o klimi sazvanog na poziv američkog predsjednika Joea Bidena.

Uoči samita Velika Britanija je također objavila odlučnije mjere u smanjenju emisije štetnih plinova za 78 posto do 2035.

Suga je prije i tijekom posjeta Washingtonu prošli vikend bio pod pritiskom Bidenove administracije da Japan smanji emisije štetnih plinova za 50 posto.

Krajem prošle godine Suga je najavio ugljičnu neutralnost zemlje do 2050.

Znanstvenici UN-a tvrde da se globalna emisija CO2 mora do 2050. spustiti na nulu kako bi se ograničio rast temperature u svijetu na najviše 1,5 stupnjeva Celzija u odnosu na predindustrijsko razdoblje.

Administracija američkog predsjednika Joea Bidena obećala je u četvrtak da će smanjiti emisije stakleničkih plinova za 50 do 52 posto do 2030. u odnosu na razine iz 2005., u nadi da će time potaknuti zemlje s visokim emisijama da se i one obvežu na odlučniju borbu protiv klimatskih promjena.

Cilj, objavljen na početku dvodnevnog samita o klimi kojemu je Biden domaćin, određen je jer SAD želi preuzeti globalno vodstvo u borbi protiv globalnog zagrijavanja nakon što je bivši predsjednik Donald Trump povukao zemlju iz Pariškog sporazuma o klimatskim promjenama. Biden je SAD službeno vratio u taj sporazum prije dva mjeseca.

Cilj označava i važnu prekretnicu u širem planu demokratskog američkog predsjednika za potpunu dekarbonizaciju američkog gospodarstva do 2050., što, tvrdi, može omogućiti otvaranje milijuna dobro plaćenih radnih mjesta, dok mnogi republikanci strahuju da će naštetiti gospodarstvu. 

Emisije bi trebale smanjiti termoelektrane, prometni i drugi sektori, ali Bijela kuća nije odredila posebne ciljeve za te industrije.

"Nijedna zemlja ne može riješiti ovu krizu sama, i ovaj samit korak je na putu prema sigurnoj, prosperitetnoj i održivoj budućnosti", poručio je Biden u tvitu pred početak samita.

Novi cilj gotovo je dvostruko veći od obećanja bivšeg predsjednika Baracka Obame da će smanjiti emisije za 26 do 28 posto do 2025. u odnosu na 2005. Sektorski ciljevi bit će određeni kasnije tijekom godine.

Kako SAD namjerava ostvariti svoje klimatske ciljeve bit će ključno za potvrdu američke vjerodostojnosti kad je riječ o globalnom zagrijavanju, s obzirom na to da međunarodna zajednica sumnja da se američka predanost čistoj energiji može drastično promijeniti sa smjenom administracija.

Biden je nedavno predstavio dva bilijuna američkih dolara vrijedan plan ulaganja u modernizaciju infrastrukture koji predviđa mnoge mjere koje bi mogle pridonijeti smanjenju emisija, uključujući uvođenje električnih vozila.

Ali mjere mora usvojiti Kongres da bi mogle biti provedene.

Svjetski čelnici žele ograničiti globalno zagrijavanje na 1,5 stupnjeva Celzijevih iznad predindustrijskih razina, što bi trebalo spriječiti najgore posljedice klimatskih promjena.

Japan je u četvrtak svoj cilj smanjenja emisije ugljika do 2030. povisio na 46 posto nakon pritiska SAD-a, domaćih tvrtki i aktivista za zaštitu okoliša koji su prethodni cilj od 26 posto smatrali neambicioznim.

Premijer Yoshihide Suga novi je cilj, u odnosu na razine iz 2013., objavio nekoliko sati uoči virtualnog samita o klimi sazvanog na poziv američkog predsjednika Joea Bidena.

Uoči samita Velika Britanija je također objavila odlučnije mjere u smanjenju emisije štetnih plinova za 78 posto do 2035.

Suga je prije i tijekom posjeta Washingtonu prošli vikend bio pod pritiskom Bidenove administracije da Japan smanji emisije štetnih plinova za 50 posto.

Znanstvenici UN-a tvrde da se globalna emisija CO2 mora do 2050. spustiti na nulu kako bi se ograničio rast temperature u svijetu na najviše 1,5 stupnjeva Celzija u odnosu na predindustrijsko razdoblje.

Administracija američkog predsjednika Joea Bidena obećala je u četvrtak da će smanjiti emisije stakleničkih plinova za 50 do 52 posto do 2030. u odnosu na razine iz 2005., u nadi da će time potaknuti zemlje s visokim emisijama da se i one obvežu na odlučniju borbu protiv klimatskih promjena.

Cilj, objavljen na početku dvodnevnog samita o klimi kojemu je Biden domaćin, određen je jer SAD želi preuzeti globalno vodstvo u borbi protiv globalnog zagrijavanja nakon što je bivši predsjednik Donald Trump povukao zemlju iz Pariškog sporazuma o klimatskim promjenama. Biden je SAD službeno vratio u taj sporazum prije dva mjeseca.
