Ženska teniska udruga (WTA) objavila je suspenziju svih WTA turnira u Kini zbog zabrinutosti oko sigurnosti bivše vodeće tenisačice svijeta u parovima Peng Shuai.

"Ne vidim kako mogu tražiti od naših sportaša da se tamo natječu kad Peng Shuai ne smije slobodno komunicirati i čini se da je bila pod pritiskom da proturječi svojim navodima o seksualnom zlostavljanju", rekao je izvršni direktor WTA Steve Simon u izjavi.

"S obzirom na trenutno stanje stvari, također sam jako zabrinut zbog rizika s kojima bi se svi naši igrači i osoblje mogli suočiti ako održimo događaje u Kini 2022. godine," dodao je.

Tijekom 2019. godine, posljednje na koju Covid-19 nije utjecao, u Kini je organizirano 10 turnira, uključujući ženski Masters na kraju godine koji je sa 14 milijuna dolara nagradnog fonda bio financijski kači od muškog pandana.

Gdje se nalazi Peng Shuai, jedna od najvećih kineskih sportskih zvijezda, postalo je pitanje međunarodne javnosti nakon što je gotovo prije mjesec dana nestala nakon što je optužila utjecajnog člana Komunističke partije Kine da ju je prisiljavao na spolni odnos.

Kineski online cenzori brzo su izbrisali objavu s platforme Weibo, uklonili sve inkriminirajuće dokaze o optužbama protiv utjecajnog člana kineske vlade. Ni Zhang ni kineska vlada nisu komentirali njezine navode.

Shuai se nakon dva tjedna pojavila u Pekingu i održala je videopoziv s predsjednikom Međunarodnog olimpijskog odbora (MOO) Thomasom Bachom, međutim WTA je poručio kako to nije riješilo niti ublažilo zabrinutost za njezinu situaciju.

"Ništa od ovoga nije prihvatljivo niti može postati prihvatljivo. Ako moćni ljudi mogu potisnuti glasove žena i gurnuti optužbe o seksualnom napadu pod tepih, tada bi osnova na kojoj je WTA osnovana,  jednakost za žene, pretrpjela golem  udarac. Neću i ne mogu dopustiti da se to dogodi WTA-i i njezinim igračicama," dodao je Simon.

Istraživač Amnesty Internationala za Kinu, Alkan Akad, istaknuo je kako videopoziv nije umanjio strahove oko njezine sigurnosti, dodavši kako MOO ulazi u "opasne vode".

Sjedinjene Države, Francuska, Britanija, te brojni tenisači i tenisačicei, uključujući Naomi Osaku, Serenu Williams i Billie Jean King, također su izrazili zabrinutost zbog Peng Shua.

"Zadovoljan sam ogromnom količinom međunarodne potpore koju je WTA dobio za svoj stav o ovom pitanju. Kako bismo dodatno zaštitili Peng i mnoge druge žene diljem svijeta, hitnije je nego ikad da ljudi progovore. WTA će učiniti sve da zaštiti svoje igrače," zaključio je Simon.

Ženska teniska udruga (WTA) objavila je suspenziju svih WTA turnira u Kini zbog zabrinutosti oko sigurnosti bivše vodeće tenisačice svijeta u parovima Peng Shuai.

"Ne vidim kako mogu tražiti od naših sportaša da se tamo natječu kad Peng Shuai ne smije slobodno komunicirati i čini se da je bila pod pritiskom da proturječi svojim navodima o seksualnom zlostavljanju", rekao je izvršni direktor WTA Steve Simon u izjavi.

"S obzirom na trenutno stanje stvari, također sam jako zabrinut zbog rizika s kojima bi se svi naši igrači i osoblje mogli suočiti ako održimo događaje u Kini 2022. godine," dodao je.

Tijekom 2019. godine, posljednje na koju Covid-19 nije utjecao, u Kini je organizirano 10 turnira, uključujući ženski Masters na kraju godine koji je sa 14 milijuna dolara nagradnog fonda bio financijski kači od muškog pandana.

Gdje se nalazi Peng Shuai, jedna od najvećih kineskih sportskih zvijezda, postalo je pitanje međunarodne javnosti nakon što je gotovo prije mjesec dana nestala nakon što je optužila utjecajnog člana Komunističke partije Kine da ju je prisiljavao na spolni odnos.

Kineski online cenzori brzo su izbrisali objavu s platforme Weibo, uklonili sve inkriminirajuće dokaze o optužbama protiv utjecajnog člana kineske vlade. Ni Zhang ni kineska vlada nisu komentirali njezine navode.

Shuai se nakon dva tjedna pojavila u Pekingu i održala je videopoziv s predsjednikom Međunarodnog olimpijskog odbora (MOO) Thomasom Bachom, međutim WTA je poručio kako to nije riješilo niti ublažilo zabrinutost za njezinu situaciju.

"Ništa od ovoga nije prihvatljivo niti može postati prihvatljivo. Ako moćni ljudi mogu potisnuti glasove žena i gurnuti optužbe o seksualnom napadu pod tepih, tada bi osnova na kojoj je WTA osnovana,  jednakost za žene, pretrpjela golem  udarac. Neću i ne mogu dopustiti da se to dogodi WTA-i i njezinim igračicama," dodao je Simon.

Istraživač Amnesty Internationala za Kinu, Alkan Akad, istaknuo je kako videopoziv nije umanjio strahove oko njezine sigurnosti, dodavši kako MOO ulazi u "opasne vode".

Sjedinjene Države, Francuska, Britanija, te brojni tenisači i tenisačicei, uključujući Naomi Osaku, Serenu Williams i Billie Jean King, također su izrazili zabrinutost zbog Peng Shua.

"Zadovoljan sam ogromnom količinom međunarodne potpore koju je WTA dobio za svoj stav o ovom pitanju. Kako bismo dodatno zaštitili Peng i mnoge druge žene diljem svijeta, hitnije je nego ikad da ljudi progovore. WTA će učiniti sve da zaštiti svoje igrače," zaključio je Simon.

Ženska teniska udruga (WTA) objavila je suspenziju svih WTA turnira u Kini zbog zabrinutosti oko sigurnosti bivše vodeće tenisačice svijeta u parovima Peng Shuai.

"Ne vidim kako mogu tražiti od naših sportaša da se tamo natječu kad Peng Shuai ne smije slobodno komunicirati i čini se da je bila pod pritiskom da proturječi svojim navodima o seksualnom zlostavljanju", rekao je izvršni direktor WTA Steve Simon u izjavi.

"S obzirom na trenutno stanje stvari, također sam jako zabrinut zbog rizika s kojima bi se svi naši igrači i osoblje mogli suočiti ako održimo događaje u Kini 2022. godine," dodao je.

Tijekom 2019. godine, posljednje na koju Covid-19 nije utjecao, u Kini je organizirano 10 turnira, uključujući ženski Masters na kraju godine koji je sa 14 milijuna dolara nagradn...
