Shawnacy Barber, kanadski rekorder i svjetski prvak iz 2015. u skoku motkom, umro je u dobi od 29 godina.

Barberov zastupnik Paul Doyle potvrdio je za Reuters da je atletičar preminuo u srijedu kod kuće u Kirkwoodu u Teksasu od medicinskih komplikacija.

"Više od jednostavnog, nevjerojatnog sportaša, Shawn je bio osoba tako dobrog srca koja je uvijek druge stavljala ispred sebe", izjavio je Doyle u četvrtak.

"Tragično je izgubiti tako dobru osobu u tako mladoj dobi."

Barber je 2015. osvojio zlatnu medalju na Panameričkim igrama 2015. u Torontu, a nekoliko tjedana poslije je u dobi od 21 godine iznenađujuće došao do naslova svjetskog prvaka u Pekingu, pobijedivši skokom preko 5,90 m Nijemca Raphaela Holzdeppea i tadašnjeg svjetskog rekordera i velikog favorita Francuza Renauda Lavilleniea, koji je osvojio broncu.

Barber je 15. siječnja 2016. postavio kanadski rekord preskočivši na dvoranskom natjecanju točno šest metara. Na otvorenom mu je najbolji rezultat bio 5,93 m. Bio je dvostruki sveučilišni prvak SAD-a, a osvojio je i jedan naslov na otvorenom.

No, kako je preko oca Georgea, koji mu je u većem dijelu atletske karijere bio i trener, imao dvostruko državljanstvo, Barber je odlučio nastupati pod kanadskom zastavom, kad je dobio poziv tamošnjeg atletskog saveza.

Barber se natjecao i na Olimpijskim igrama 2016. u Rio de Janeiru gdje je osvojio deseto mjesto preskočivši 5,50 m.

Uživo su ga imali priliku gledati i hrvatski ljubitelji atletike, jer je 2018. nastupio na Hanžekovićevom memorijalu i osvojio peto mjesto.​

Shawnacy Barber, kanadski rekorder i svjetski prvak iz 2015. u skoku motkom, umro je u dobi od 29 godina.

Barberov zastupnik Paul Doyle potvrdio je za Reuters da je atletičar preminuo u srijedu kod kuće u Kirkwoodu u Teksasu od medicinskih komplikacija.

"Više od jednostavnog, nevjerojatnog sportaša, Shawn je bio osoba tako dobrog srca koja je uvijek druge stavljala ispred sebe", izjavio je Doyle u četvrtak.

"Tragično je izgubiti tako dobru osobu u tako mladoj dobi."

Barber je 2015. osvojio zlatnu medalju na Panameričkim igrama 2015. u Torontu, a nekoliko tjedana poslije je u dobi od 21 godine iznenađujuće došao do naslova svjetskog prvaka u Pekingu, pobijedivši skokom preko 5,90 m Nijemca Raphaela Holzdeppea i tadašnjeg svjetskog rekordera i velikog favorita Francuza Renauda Lavilleniea, koji je osvojio broncu.

Barber je 15. siječnja 2016. postavio kanadski rekord preskočivši na dvoranskom natjecanju točno šest metara. Na otvorenom mu je najbolji rezultat bio 5,93 m. Bio je dvostruki sveučilišni prvak SAD-a, a osvojio je i jedan naslov na otvorenom.

No, kako je preko oca Georgea, koji mu je u većem dijelu atletske karijere bio i trener, imao dvostruko državljanstvo, Barber je odlučio nastupati pod kanadskom zastavom, kad je dobio poziv tamošnjeg atletskog saveza.

Barber se natjecao i na Olimpijskim igrama 2016. u Rio de Janeiru gdje je osvojio deseto mjesto preskočivši 5,50 m.

Uživo su ga imali priliku gledati i hrvatski ljubitelji atletike, jer je 2018. nastupio na Hanžekovićevom memorijalu i osvojio peto mjesto.​

Shawnacy Barber, kanadski rekorder i svjetski prvak iz 2015. u skoku motkom, umro je u dobi od 29 godina.

Barberov zastupnik Paul Doyle potvrdio je za Reuters da je atletičar preminuo u srijedu kod kuće u Kirkwoodu u Teksasu od medicinskih komplikacija.

"Više od jednostavnog, nevjerojatnog sportaša, Shawn je bio osoba tako dobrog srca koja je uvijek druge stavljala ispred sebe", izjavio je Doyle u četvrtak.

"Tragično je izgubiti tako dobru osobu u tako mladoj dobi."

Barber je 2015. osvojio zlatnu medalju na Panameričkim igrama 2015. u Torontu, a nekoliko tjedana poslije je u dobi od 21 godine iznenađujuće došao do naslova svjetskog prvaka u Pekingu, pobijedivši skokom preko 5,90 m Nijemca Raphaela Holzdeppea i tadašnjeg svjetskog rekordera i velikog favorita Francuza Renauda Lavilleniea, koji je osvojio broncu.

Barber je 15. siječnja 2016. postavio kanadski rekord preskočivši na dvoranskom natjecanju točno šest metara. Na otvorenom mu je najbolji rezultat bio 5,93 m. Bio je dvostruki sveučilišni prvak SAD-a, a osvojio je i jedan naslov na otvorenom.

No, kako je preko oca Georgea, koji mu je u većem dijelu atletske karijere bio i trener, imao dvostruko državljanstvo, Barber je odlučio nastupati pod kanadskom zastavom, kad je dobio poziv tamošnjeg atletskog saveza.

Barber se natjecao i na Olimpijskim igrama 2016. u Rio de Janeiru gdje je osvojio deseto mjesto preskočivši 5,50 m.

Uživo su ga imali priliku gledati i hrvatski ljubitelji atletike, jer je 2018. nastupio na Hanžekovićevom memorijalu i osvojio peto mjesto.​
