Kajak i kanu su nekako srodni, stoga, pitanje kojim sportom će se baviti Stjepan, njegov brat Mićo i sestra Nataša, bilo je mogli bismo kazati od početka odgovoreno. Stjepan se rodio 1980. godine u Bačkoj Palanci dok mu je majka Štrefica rodom iz Belišća.
Do 2004. godine je nastupao za reprezentaciju Srbije za koju je 1998. godine osvojio Svjetsko juniorsko prvenstvo u Segedinu. No, 2004. je, skupa s bratom Mićom, odlučio nastupiti za Hrvatsku budući da se “zakačio“ sa Srpskim kajakaškim savezom upravo zbog brata za kojega su oni tvrdili da ga “šlepa“. toga su Stjepan i brat Mićo odlučili prijeći preko granice.
Isto je napravila i njihova sestra Nataša, koja je dvije godine mlađa od Stjepana. No, ona je odlučila poći nešto sjevernije, u Mađarsku, te je upravo 2004. godine osvojila zlata za novu domovinu na Olimpijskim igrama u Sydneyju u kajaku jednosjedu na 500 metara, te u dvosjedu na istoj udaljenosti.
Danas nastupa u finalu jednosjeda na “petstotki“. Pokušao se Stjepan s bratom kvalificirati na Igre u Pekingu ove sezone, nakon što je prošle sebi već bio osigurao nastup na Olimpijskim igrama.
No, nije išlo, završili su kao sedmi na Europskome prvenstvu, te su na kraju ispali kao rezerve. Stoga se Stjepan odlučio za solo nastup, u čemu je pokazao da je vrlo ozbiljan kandidat za medalju kako na 500 metara, tako i na kilometar.
Koliko mu se život vrti oko kajaka svjedoči i činjenica da se i Stjepanova zaručnica, Slovenka Špela Ponomarenko, također bavi istim sportom i prilično je uspješna u tome.
I ona je izborila finale u istoj disciplini kao i zaručnik, u utrci na 500 metara u kajaku jednosjedu.

Kajak i kanu su nekako srodni, stoga, pitanje kojim sportom će se baviti Stjepan, njegov brat Mićo i sestra Nataša, bilo je mogli bismo kazati od početka odgovoreno. Stjepan se rodio 1980. godine u Bačkoj Palanci dok mu je majka Štrefica rodom iz Belišća.
Do 2004. godine je nastupao za reprezentaciju Srbije za koju je 1998. godine osvojio Svjetsko juniorsko prvenstvo u Segedinu. No, 2004. je, skupa s bratom Mićom, odlučio nastupiti za Hrvatsku budući da se “zakačio“ sa Srpskim kajakaškim savezom upravo zbog brata za kojega su oni tvrdili da ga “šlepa“. toga su Stjepan i brat Mićo odlučili prijeći preko granice.
Isto je napravila i njihova sestra Nataša, koja je dvije godine mlađa od Stjepana. No, ona je odlučila poći nešto sjevernije, u Mađarsku, te je upravo 2004. godine osvojila zlata za novu domovinu na Olimpijskim igrama u Sydneyju u kajaku jednosjedu na 500 metara, te u dvosjedu na istoj udaljenosti.
Danas nastupa u finalu jednosjeda na “petstotki“. Pokušao se Stjepan s bratom kvalificirati na Igre u Pekingu ove sezone, nakon što je prošle sebi već bio osigurao nastup na Olimpijskim igrama.
No, nije išlo, završili su kao sedmi na Europskome prvenstvu, te su na kraju ispali kao rezerve. Stoga se Stjepan odlučio za solo nastup, u čemu je pokazao da je vrlo ozbiljan kandidat za medalju kako na 500 metara, tako i na kilometar.
Koliko mu se život vrti oko kajaka svjedoči i činjenica da se i Stjepanova zaručnica, Slovenka Špela Ponomarenko, također bavi istim sportom i prilično je uspješna u tome.
I ona je izborila finale u istoj disciplini kao i zaručnik, u utrci na 500 metara u kajaku jednosjedu.
