Od arktičkog ledenjaka uz kanadsku obalu, odlomio se golemi komad leda, utvrdili su kanadski znanstvenici, na temelju satelitskih snimki. Od ledene ploče Ward Hunt odlomilo se oko 20 četvornih kilometara leda, što je do sada najveći odlomljeni komad otkako se 2005. godine od ledene ploče Ayles odlomilo čak 60 četvornih kilometara leda.

Sada se na ledenoj ploči Ward Hunt, od koje se led odlomio, mogu vidjeti rascijepi od 16 kilometara, potvrdili su stručnjaci koji su proučavali teren. Istodobno su najavili i novo lomljenje ledene ploče tijekom razdoblja taljenja u arktičkom ljetu.

Oni su, naime, na Sjevernom polu i ove godine, kao i u prošlosti, svjedočili o brzom topljenju leda, ali se nadaju kako ipak neće doći do tako zabrinjavajućih posljedica globalnog zagrijavanja kao prošle godine, kada je na tom području ukupna ledena površina iznosila samo 4,3 milijuna četvornih kilometara.

Otok Ellesmere, koji je dio kanadskog arktičkog poluotoka, nekada je pokrivala golema ledena ploča, velika gotovo 10.000 kilometara, dok njezina današnja površina iznosi tek deseti dio nekadašnje, a dio te površine su upravo ledene police Ward Hunt i Ayles.

Od arktičkog ledenjaka uz kanadsku obalu, odlomio se golemi komad leda, utvrdili su kanadski znanstvenici, na temelju satelitskih snimki. Od ledene ploče Ward Hunt odlomilo se oko 20 četvornih kilometara leda, što je do sada najveći odlomljeni komad otkako se 2005. godine od ledene ploče Ayles odlomilo čak 60 četvornih kilometara leda.

Sada se na ledenoj ploči Ward Hunt, od koje se led odlomio, mogu vidjeti rascijepi od 16 kilometara, potvrdili su stručnjaci koji su proučavali teren. Istodobno su najavili i novo lomljenje ledene ploče tijekom razdoblja taljenja u arktičkom ljetu.

Oni su, naime, na Sjevernom polu i ove godine, kao i u prošlosti, svjedočili o brzom topljenju leda, ali se nadaju kako ipak neće doći do tako zabrinjavajućih posljedica globalnog zagrijavanja kao prošle godine, kada je na tom području ukupna ledena površina iznosila samo 4,3 milijuna četvornih kilometara.

Otok Ellesmere, koji je dio kanadskog arktičkog poluotoka, nekada je pokrivala golema ledena ploča, velika gotovo 10.000 kilometara, dok njezina današnja površina iznosi tek deseti dio nekadašnje, a dio te površine su upravo ledene police Ward Hunt i Ayles.

Od arktičkog ledenjaka uz kanadsku obalu, odlomio se golemi komad leda, utvrdili su kanadski znanstvenici, na temelju satelitskih snimki. Od ledene ploče Ward Hunt odlomilo se oko 20 četvornih kilometara leda, što je do sada najveći odlomljeni komad otkako se 2005. godine od ledene ploče Ayles odlomilo čak 60 četvornih kilometara leda.
