Ozljede kralježnice smatraju se jednim od najtežih i najneugodnijih. Onemogućena ili smanjena mogućnost kretanja veže ljude za krevet ili stolicu pa je svako otkriće u liječenje tih ozljeda važno.

Devet osoba s kroničnim ozljedama kralježnice ponovno je prohodalo zahvaljujući mješavini elektrostimulacije i intenzivne fizikalne terapije, pokazali su rezultati nove švicarske studije. Svi navedeni pacijenti patili su od teške ili potpune paralize kao posljedice oštećenja leđne moždine. Tijekom navedene terapije svi su pacijenti odmah primijetili poboljšanja, a ona su se nastavila ​​i pet mjeseci poslije.

Znanstvenici iz švicarske istraživačke skupine NeuroRestore identificirali su točne skupine živaca stimuliranih terapijom, koristeći modele na miševima kao početnu točku, a rezultate studije objavili su u časopisu Nature, prenosi Zimo.

Živčane stanice koje upravljaju hodanjem nalaze se u dijelu leđne moždine koji prolazi kroz donji dio leđa. Ozljede leđne moždine stoga mogu prekinuti lanac signala iz mozga, sprječavajući hodanje čak i kada su ti specifični lumbalni neuroni zapravo netaknuti. S obzirom na to da nakon određenih ozljeda kralježnice ti ‘hodajući‘ neuroni postaju nefunkcionalni, to potencijalno dovodi do trajne paralize nogu.

Stimulacijom do hodalice

Prethodna znanstvena istraživanja su pokazala da električna stimulacija leđne moždine može preokrenuti takvu paralizu, ali dosad nije bilo jasno kako se to događa. Neuroznanstvenica Claudia Kathe sa Švicarskog saveznog instituta za tehnologiju Lausanne (EPFL) i njezini kolege, testirali su tehnologiju koja se zove epiduralna električna stimulacija na devet osoba, kao i na spomenutom životinjskom modelu.

Leđnu moždinu stimulirao je kirurški implantirani neurotransmiter. U međuvremenu, pacijenti su prošli i proces intenzivne neurorehabilitacije, koji je uključivao robotski sustav podrške, koji im je pomagao dok su se kretali u više smjerova. Ta je rehabilitacija trajala pet mjeseci i odvijala se četiri puta tjedno, a nakon svega, svi pacijenti su mogli hodati uz pomoć hodalice.

Na iznenađenje znanstvenika, oporavljeni pacijenti zapravo su pokazali smanjenje neuralne aktivnosti u lumbalnom dijelu leđne moždine tijekom hodanja. Švicarski znanstvenici vjeruju da je to zbog aktivnosti koja je pročišćena na određeni podskup neurona koji su neophodni za hodanje, piše znanstvena novinarka Courtine Dyani Lewis u članku o studiji objavljenom u znanstvenome časopisu Nature, prenosi Zimo.

Ozljede kralježnice smatraju se jednim od najtežih i najneugodnijih. Onemogućena ili smanjena mogućnost kretanja veže ljude za krevet ili stolicu pa je svako otkriće u liječenje tih ozljeda važno.

Devet osoba s kroničnim ozljedama kralježnice ponovno je prohodalo zahvaljujući mješavini elektrostimulacije i intenzivne fizikalne terapije, pokazali su rezultati nove švicarske studije. Svi navedeni pacijenti patili su od teške ili potpune paralize kao posljedice oštećenja leđne moždine. Tijekom navedene terapije svi su pacijenti odmah primijetili poboljšanja, a ona su se nastavila ​​i pet mjeseci poslije.

Znanstvenici iz švicarske istraživačke skupine NeuroRestore identificirali su točne skupine živaca stimuliranih terapijom, koristeći modele na miševima kao početnu točku, a rezultate studije objavili su u časopisu Nature, prenosi Zimo.

Ozljede leđne moždine stoga mogu prekinuti lanac signala iz mozga, sprječavajući hodanje čak i kada su ti specifični lumbalni neuroni zapravo netaknuti. S obzirom na to da nakon određenih ozljeda kralježnice ti ‘hodajući‘ neuroni postaju nefunkcionalni, to potencijalno dovodi do trajne paralize nogu.

Stimulacijom do hodalice

Prethodna znanstvena istraživanja su pokazala da električna stimulacija leđne moždine može preokrenuti takvu paralizu, ali dosad nije bilo jasno kako se to događa. Neuroznanstvenica Claudia Kathe sa Švicarskog saveznog instituta za tehnologiju Lausanne (EPFL) i njezini kolege, testirali su tehnologiju koja se zove epiduralna električna stimulacija na devet osoba, kao i na spomenutom životinjskom modelu.

Leđnu moždinu stimulirao je kirurški implantirani neurotransmiter. U međuvremenu, pacijenti su prošli i proces intenzivne neurorehabilitacije, koji je uključivao robotski sustav podrške, koji im je pomagao dok su se kretali u više smjerova. Ta je rehabilitacija trajala pet mjeseci i odvijala se četiri puta tjedno, a nakon svega, svi pacijenti su mogli hodati uz pomoć hodalice.

Na iznenađenje znanstvenika, oporavljeni pacijenti zapravo su pokazali smanjenje neuralne aktivnosti u lumbalnom dijelu leđne moždine tijekom hodanja. Švicarski znanstvenici vjeruju da je to zbog aktivnosti koja je pročišćena na određeni podskup neurona koji su neophodni za hodanje, piše znanstvena novinarka Courtine Dyani Lewis u članku o studiji objavljenom u znanstvenome časopisu Nature, prenosi Zimo.

Tragom švicarskih znasntvenika mogli bi krenuti i drugi stručnjaci. Ako i oni ostvare slične rezultate, brojni ljudi koji imaju problema kralježnicom živjet će puno ljepše i lakše.
