Eleanor Roosevelt prva je dama čijim se životom pozabavila zadnja u nizu epizoda CNN-ovog dokumentarnog serijala 'First Ladies'. Ipak okarakterizirati ju prvenstveno i samo u toj ulozi značilo bi uvelike umanjiti njena postignuća. Imala je veliku, neovisnu političku karijeru, a stavovima o tadašnjem društvu zaradila je dosje u CIA-i dug preko 3 tisuće stranica. Amerikanci je svejedno obožavaju i danas pa je proglašena devetom najomiljenijom osobom 20. stoljeća.

Franklin Roosevelt izabran je četiri puta za predsjednika SAD-a, presedan učinjen kako bi se zadržala stabilnost uslijed II. svjetskog rata. Ipak njegova karijera pa tako i američka povijest umalo je izgledala posve drugačije. Njegova supruga Eleanor nagovorila ga je da ostane u politici nakon što je zbog teške bolesti završio u kolicima 1921. godine, i umjesto njega je počela držati govore na javnim nastupima i voditi kampanju.

Bilo je to samo par godina nakon što je otkrila da on ima ljubavnicu nakon čega se nije odlučila na osvetu njemu već na samostalnost koja se najbolje očitovala kroz aktivnost u političkom životu uz muža, ali i neovisno od njega.

Sebe je opisivala kao buntovnu međutim to je eufemizam koji navodi na krive zaključke. Progresivni stavovi o ženskim, rasnim i socijalnim pitanjima i danas se u dijelu javnosti smatraju ekstremnima, ali njen stil nije bio da umanjuje retoriku čime i probleme s kojima se suočavaju nezaštićeni pripadnici društva. Nakon što je proputovala SAD na jednoj turneji ostala je zgrožena kako žive siromašni građani, napose Afroamerikanci i otada se aktivno zalagala za poboljšanje njihova položaja.

Da nije sve ostajalo na riječima koje ni same po sebi nisu zanemarive pokazuje i primjer kada je demonstrativno istupila iz organizacije 'Kćeri američke revolucije' zbog toga što isključivo na rasnoj osnovi nisu dopuštali nastup pjevačice Marian Anderson u Ustavnoj dvorani.

Samopouzdanje da se ponaša s takvom slobodom, rijetkom za godine u kojima je živjela stekla je tijekom obrazovanja u Londonu od svoje profesorice i mentorice Marie Souvestre kojoj je cilj otvaranja škole bio osnaživanje generacije mladih žena. Po povratku sa školovanja odmah se vjenčala za Theodora s kojim je bila rođakinja u petom koljenu.

Iz temelja je promijenila ulogu prve dame u koju je uključila aktivizam i autonomnu političku djelatnost. Da bi potakla žene da ganjaju 'muške profesije' organizirala je novinarske presice na koje su bile pozivane samo ženske reporterke. I sama je pisala kolumnu za tjedni i mjesečni tisak i pozivala je građane da joj pišu što ih muči kako bi se mogla pozabaviti s problemima stvarnih ljudi.

Njena aktivnost zapela je oko CIA-i u čijoj kolekciji je njen dosje postao jedan od najvećih, a među brojnim opasnostima na koje se u njemu upozorava je i njeno koketiranje s komunizmom. Tako se u SAD-u toga vremena opisivala briga za siromašne i diskriminirane članove zajednice.

Jedna od Eleanorinih glavnih preokupacija bila su ljudska prava zbog čega ju je Harry Truman, predsjednik SAD-a koji je zamijenio njenog supruga nakon što je umro, nazvao prvom damom svijeta. Zalagala se za pristupanje Amerike UN-u, a zatim ondje poslana u prvoj delegaciji koja je predstavljala i nastavila proklamirati svoje ideje na globalnoj razini.

Eleanor Roosevelt prva je dama čijim se životom pozabavila zadnja u nizu epizoda CNN-ovog dokumentarnog serijala 'First Ladies'. Ipak okarakterizirati ju prvenstveno i samo u toj ulozi značilo bi uvelike umanjiti njena postignuća. Imala je veliku, neovisnu političku karijeru, a stavovima o tadašnjem društvu zaradila je dosje u CIA-i dug preko 3 tisuće stranica. Amerikanci je svejedno obožavaju i danas pa je proglašena devetom najomiljenijom osobom 20. stoljeća.

Franklin Roosevelt izabran je četiri puta za predsjednika SAD-a, presedan učinjen kako bi se zadržala stabilnost uslijed II. svjetskog rata. Ipak njegova karijera pa tako i američka povijest umalo je izgledala posve drugačije. Njegova supruga Eleanor nagovorila ga je da ostane u politici nakon što je zbog teške bolesti završio u kolicima 1921. godine, i umjesto njega je počela držati govore na javnim nastupima i voditi kampanju.

Bilo je to samo par godina nakon što je otkrila da on ima ljubavnicu nakon čega se nije odlučila na osvetu njemu već na samostalnost koja se najbolje očitovala kroz aktivnost u političkom životu uz muža, ali i neovisno od njega.

Sebe je opisivala kao buntovnu međutim to je eufemizam koji navodi na krive zaključke. Progresivni stavovi o ženskim, rasnim i socijalnim pitanjima i danas se u dijelu javnosti smatraju ekstremnima, ali njen stil nije bio da umanjuje retoriku čime i probleme s kojima se suočavaju nezaštićeni pripadnici društva. Nakon što je proputovala SAD na jednoj turneji ostala je zgrožena kako žive siromašni građani, napose Afroamerikanci i otada se aktivno zalagala za poboljšanje njihova položaja.

Da nije sve ostajalo na riječima koje ni same po sebi nisu zanemarive pokazuje i primjer kada je demonstrativno istupila iz organizacije 'Kćeri američke revolucije' zbog toga što isključivo na rasnoj osnovi nisu dopuštali nastup pjevačice Marian Anderson u Ustavnoj dvorani.

Samopouzdanje da se ponaša s takvom slobodom, rijetkom za godine u kojima je živjela stekla je tijekom obrazovanja u Londonu od svoje profesorice i mentorice Marie Souvestre kojoj je cilj otvaranja škole bio osnaživanje generacije mladih žena. Po povratku sa školovanja odmah se vjenčala za Theodora s kojim je bila rođakinja u petom koljenu.

Iz temelja je promijenila ulogu prve dame u koju je uključila aktivizam i autonomnu političku djelatnost. Da bi potakla žene da ganjaju 'muške profesije' organizirala je novinarske presice na koje su bile pozivane samo ženske reporterke. I sama je pisala kolumnu za tjedni i mjesečni tisak i pozivala je građane da joj pišu što ih muči kako bi se mogla pozabaviti s problemima stvarnih ljudi.

Njena aktivnost zapela je oko CIA-i u čijoj kolekciji je njen dosje postao jedan od najvećih, a među brojnim opasnostima na koje se u njemu upozorava je i njeno koketiranje s komunizmom. Tako se u SAD-u toga vremena opisivala briga za siromašne i diskriminirane članove zajednice.

Jedna od Eleanorinih glavnih preokupacija bila su ljudska prava zbog čega ju je Harry Truman, predsjednik SAD-a koji je zamijenio njenog supruga nakon što je umro, nazvao prvom damom svijeta. Zalagala se za pristupanje Amerike UN-u, a zatim ondje poslana u prvoj delegaciji koja je predstavljala i nastavila proklamirati svoje ideje na globalnoj razini.

Eleanor Roosevelt prva je dama čijim se životom pozabavila zadnja u nizu epizoda CNN-ovog dokumentarnog serijala 'First Ladies'. Ipak okarakterizirati ju prvenstveno i samo u toj ulozi značilo bi uvelike umanjiti njena postignuća. Imala je veliku, neovisnu političku karijeru, a stavovima o tadašnjem društvu zaradila je dosje u CIA-i dug preko 3 tisuće stranica. Amerikanci je svejedno obožavaju i danas pa je proglašena devetom najomiljenijom osobom 20. stoljeća.

Franklin Roosevelt izabran je četiri puta za predsjednika SAD-a, presedan učinjen kako bi se zadržala stabilnost uslijed II. svjetskog rata. Ipak njegova karijera pa tako i američka povijest umalo je izgledala posve drugačije. Njegova supruga Eleanor nagovorila ga je da ostane u politici nakon što je zbog teške boles...
