Iskusni vozači itekako su svjesni važnosti guma. Zato svoje gume redovito održavaju na propisanom tlaku, mijenjaju ljetne za zimske i obratno, vode računa o stanju, očuvanosti i roku trajanja guma.

Kvaliteta guma ovisi i o njihovoj starosti. Do prije nekoliko godina na snazi ​​je bila formula 4X4X4, što znači da vozilo mora imati četiri jednake gume koje se moraju mijenjati svake četiri godine, a one (bez obzira na starost) moraju imati minimalno četiri milimetra profila.
