Maksimalno pet minuta treba da prepoznamo film kvebečkog "wunderkinda" i regularnog canneskog gosta Xaviera Dolana u "Matthiasu i Maximeu". Događa se to nakon što najbolji prijatelji iz djetinjstva Matthias (Gabriel D’Almeida-Freitas) i Maxime (igra ga sam Dolan) napuste teretanu i sjednu u automobil. Zamišljeno lice Maximea upereno je u cestu ispred njega, a u kadar se ušulja pjesma "Looking For Knives" benda Dylan.
Od prvih filmova Dolan se nametnuo kao majstor skiciranja mladenačkog zamišljaja i ubacivanja pogođenih pjesama u datom trenutku. Zaštitni znakovi mladog redatelja krase i njegov zasad posljednji projekt koji hrvatsku premijeru ima ove srijede na "online" izdanju ZFF-a, festivala gdje se 2009. predstavio hrvatskim filmofilima s nagrađivanim prvijencem "Ubio sam svoju majku".

"Matthias & Maxime" znade biti neravnomjeran i nefokusiran, moguće i zato što je Dolan simultano obavljao dužnost redatelja i glumca. Međutim, kad film ubode "dolanovski" trenutak i podastre svježa vizualna rješenja, podsjeća na njegova najbolja ostvarenja "U svakom slučaju, Laurence", "Mama" ili "Izmišljene ljubavi".
U njima je dojmljivo portretirao ljudske odnose, bio zainteresiran za melodramski emotivni "coming out" (izlazak iz ormara) i "coming of age" (odrastanje/sazrijevanje) svojih likova, pa i sebe samoga. Prošlo je već 11 godina otkako je Dolan stupio na festivalsku scenu i u hipu postao svojevrsni novi Almodovar, omiljeni melodramatičar milenijalaca i hipstera, glas njihove generacije.
"Matthias i Maxime" ga prikazuje kao filmaša istanačnije zrelosti koju je najavio "Samo je kraj svijeta", pa makar tek navršio 31 godinu. Sada Dolan može s odmakom sagledati mladost i generaciju kojoj je nekoć i sam pripadao, biti zreliji i refleksivniji, ponajprije prema sebi, ali i otkriti još neke filmaške utjecaje (Jacques Rivette) koje je dosad skrivao (američki mladenački, muški "indie" biseri devedesetih o tulumarenju i zaljubljivanju).
Studentica režije u filmu Erika (Camille Felton), sestra Matthiasova i Maximeova prijatelja, preziva se Rivette. A studentski film koji ona snima je impresionistčki i ekspresionistički, baš kakvi su znali biti Dolanovi, na momente naglašeno festivalsko-artistički (kadrovi drveća).
Kao da je Dolan autoironičan/samokritičan, a to potpiruje i izjava jedne od prijateljica Erikine majke, odnosno usporedba crvene boje u njezinu filmu s "Eldomóvarom". Ipak, sve ostalo je "straight" (melo)drama potisnutih "gay" osjećaja koji nastupaju kad Erika, nakon odustajanja njezinih glumaca, angažira Matthiasa i Maximea za uloge u filmu, a njihovi likovi se trebaju poljubiti.
Zanimljivo, iako Matthias pita Maximea "Are you ready for your close-up", parafrazirajući obraćanje glumice Norme Desmond redatelju De Milleu u "Bulevaru sumraka", Dolan izostavlja/skriva kadar poljupca. No, spoznaja da su se oni poljubili jednom u srednjoj školi sugerira emotivne turbulencije koje će izaći na površinu, najviše kod Matthiasa.
Život "straight" muškarca s djevojkom i stabilnim odvjetničkim poslom se poljulja i on počne preispitivati svoju seksualnost i udaljavati se od ("gay") prijatelja Maximea, unoseći tenzije u njihovu ekipu frendova. Ne pomaže ni to što Matthiasov klijent (Harris Dickinson, otkriće filma "Beach Rats") kao da flertira s njime, premda se busa heteroseksualnošću.
Maxime je, pak, dovoljno izjeden iznutra zbog toga što jest, a i život s majkom-bivšom ovisnicom (Dolanova "kućna" glumica Anne Dorval) dao je obol tome. Njegov simbolični crveni biljeg na licu kao da je preselio bolna unutarnja trvenja na površinu i zauvijek ih ovjekovječio.
Dolana ovdje interesira "nelagoda muškosti" i zato snima suzbijene žudnje Matthiasa i Maximea s udaljenosti, kroz okvir prozora. Možda je Dolan bolji redatelj nego glumac, ali emocije njegova lika prilično su sirove, iskrene, osjetljive, proživljene. Emocije filma pogotovo. Nakon neslavnog prvijenca na engleskom jeziku "The Death & Life Of John F. Donovan", "Matthias & Maxime" vraća Dolana u formu.

Soundtrack je napučen pjesmama Arcade Fire, Pet Shop Boysa, Toma Odella... Napose sjajno se uklopio Phosphorescent sa "Song for Zula".

Maksimalno pet minuta treba da prepoznamo film kvebečkog "wunderkinda" i regularnog canneskog gosta Xaviera Dolana u "Matthiasu i Maximeu". Događa se to nakon što najbolji prijatelji iz djetinjstva Matthias (Gabriel D’Almeida-Freitas) i Maxime (igra ga sam Dolan) napuste teretanu i sjednu u automobil. Zamišljeno lice Maximea upereno je u cestu ispred njega, a u kadar se ušulja pjesma "Looking For Knives" benda Dylan.
Od prvih filmova Dolan se nametnuo kao majstor skiciranja mladenačkog zamišljaja i ubacivanja pogođenih pjesama u datom trenutku. Zaštitni znakovi mladog redatelja krase i njegov zasad posljednji projekt koji hrvatsku premijeru ima ove srijede na "online" izdanju ZFF-a, festivala gdje se 2009. predstavio hrvatskim filmofilima s nagrađivanim prvijencem "Ubio sam svoju majku".

"Matthias & Maxime" znade biti neravnomjeran i nefokusiran, moguće i zato što je Dolan simultano obavljao dužnost redatelja i glumca. Međutim, kad film ubode "dolanovski" trenutak i podastre svježa vizualna rješenja, podsjeća na njegova najbolja ostvarenja "U svakom slučaju, Laurence", "Mama" ili "Izmišljene ljubavi".
U njima je dojmljivo portretirao ljudske odnose, bio zainteresiran za melodramski emotivni "coming out" (izlazak iz ormara) i "coming of age" (odrastanje/sazrijevanje) svojih likova, pa i sebe samoga. Prošlo je već 11 godina otkako je Dolan stupio na festivalsku scenu i u hipu postao svojevrsni novi Almodovar, omiljeni melodramatičar milenijalaca i hipstera, glas njihove generacije.
"Matthias i Maxime" ga prikazuje kao filmaša istanačnije zrelosti koju je najavio "Samo je kraj svijeta", pa makar tek navršio 31 godinu. Sada Dolan može s odmakom sagledati mladost i generaciju kojoj je nekoć i sam pripadao, biti zreliji i refleksivniji, ponajprije prema sebi, ali i otkriti još neke filmaške utjecaje (Jacques Rivette) koje je dosad skrivao (američki mladenački, muški "indie" biseri devedesetih o tulumarenju i zaljubljivanju).
Studentica režije u filmu Erika (Camille Felton), sestra Matthiasova i Maximeova prijatelja, preziva se Rivette. A studentski film koji ona snima je impresionistčki i ekspresionistički, baš kakvi su znali biti Dolanovi, na momente naglašeno festivalsko-artistički (kadrovi drveća).
Kao da je Dolan autoironičan/samokritičan, a to potpiruje i izjava jedne od prijateljica Erikine majke, odnosno usporedba crvene boje u njezinu filmu s "Eldomóvarom". Ipak, sve ostalo je "straight" (melo)drama potisnutih "gay" osjećaja koji nastupaju kad Erika, nakon odustajanja njezinih glumaca, angažira Matthiasa i Maximea za uloge u filmu, a njihovi likovi se trebaju poljubiti.
Zanimljivo, iako Matthias pita Maximea "Are you ready for your close-up", parafrazirajući obraćanje glumice Norme Desmond redatelju De Milleu u "Bulevaru sumraka", Dolan izostavlja/skriva kadar poljupca. No, spoznaja da su se oni poljubili jednom u srednjoj školi sugerira emotivne turbulencije koje će izaći na površinu, najviše kod Matthiasa.
Život "straight" muškarca s djevojkom i stabilnim odvjetničkim poslom se poljulja i on počne preispitivati svoju seksualnost i udaljavati se od ("gay") prijatelja Maximea, unoseći tenzije u njihovu ekipu frendova. Ne pomaže ni to što Matthiasov klijent (Harris Dickinson, otkriće filma "Beach Rats") kao da flertira s njime, premda se busa heteroseksualnošću.
Maxime je, pak, dovoljno izjeden iznutra zbog toga što jest, a i život s majkom-bivšom ovisnicom (Dolanova "kućna" glumica Anne Dorval) dao je obol tome. Njegov simbolični crveni biljeg na licu kao da je preselio bolna unutarnja trvenja na površinu i zauvijek ih ovjekovječio.
Dolana ovdje interesira "nelagoda muškosti" i zato snima suzbijene žudnje Matthiasa i Maximea s udaljenosti, kroz okvir prozora. Možda je Dolan bolji redatelj nego glumac, ali emocije njegova lika prilično su sirove, iskrene, osjetljive, proživljene. Emocije filma pogotovo. Nakon neslavnog prvijenca na engleskom jeziku "The Death & Life Of John F. Donovan", "Matthias & Maxime" vraća Dolana u formu.
