Ako je domaća indie singer/songwriter scena, a posebice njezin odsječak “ženskog pisma“ prije nekoliko godina djelovala kao “eksces“, pomodni hir uskog kruga hipstera ili čak sekta, danas nije samo relevantna glazbena činjenica, već i prostor s kojeg stižu možda najbolja i najintrigantnija izdanja. “Haze“ Irene Žilić je baš od te sorte.
Već uvodna “Moon“ pokazuje ne baš zanemariv odmak od ranijih snimki uz uspjeli iskorak prema punijem (slojevitijem) zvuku.

No bez napuštanja onih iskonskih obilježja indie lo-fi poetike sadržane, makar dijelom, u staroj maksimi “manje je više“. Jer unatoč dominantnoj (nikad agresivnoj) gitari sa zavodljivim tonom pustinjskog “twanga“, basom koji jamči toplinu zvučnoj slici te suptilnih klavijatura, ama baš ništa ne stoji na putu niti se sudara s iznimnim - i dalje “prozračnim“ i onozemaljskim - Ireninim vokalom.

Ulazak u prostor koji (više) ne trpi naljepnicu akustičarskog indie trubadurskog iskaza još je očitiji u sljedećoj “From Scratch“, koja se širi u panoramskoj zvučnoj slici (sa pseudoopernim dionicama koje lelujaju ispod Ireninog vokala) ocrtanoj i diskretno psihodeličnim tonovima melankoličnog folka, “starim ušima“ nalik melankoliji Nicka Drakea. Marko Mrakovčić se i ovaj put pokazao u studiju, donijevši u gotovo svakom broju lucidna rješenja svojih zvučnih eksperimenata savršeno sparenih s vokalom.

U “Into The Wind“ je ubačeno nešto i od aktualnih indie bandova naslonjenih na ritmičke “pumpajuće“ obrasce U2 (prisutne i u “Omegi“) dok se Irenin vokal - zahvaljujući i produkciji i odličnom aranžmanu - približio izričaju jedne Rickie Lee Jones s albuma “Pirates“. Kompliment? Naravno! To je još očitije u temi “X“ s velvetovskim gitarama kao dokaz da Irena nije pjevačica jedne role ili samo akustičarska indie chanteusse.

“Hold On“ je nova fluidna tema s pametno smišljenim rastom od akustičarskog minimalizma do punijeg zvuka podebljanog sintevima i vokalom koji vraški podsjeća na ranu Suzanne Vega. Još i više u sjajnoj “Omegi“ - zacijelo najboljem broju albuma. Lijena i pospana atmosferska “Little Daggers“ s diskretnim bubnjem i kontrabasom/basom u uvodu superioran je pak Irenin ulazak u alter-country/folk Norah Jones.

Na nju se savršeno naslanja i srodna sfumatozna laganica “Afterglow“ s atmosferom lebdeće koprenaste melankolije na tragu Cowboy Junkiesa u temama poput “Where Are You Tonight“, “Sun Come Up Its Tuesday Morning“ ili “Blue Moon“. Album zaključuje “Pioneers“ - nova sjajna fluidna balada s eteričnim vokalom a la Rickie Lee kao točka na “i“ albuma bez ijednog spornog trenutka. Šešir dolje!

Ako je domaća indie singer/songwriter scena, a posebice njezin odsječak “ženskog pisma“ prije nekoliko godina djelovala kao “eksces“, pomodni hir uskog kruga hipstera ili čak sekta, danas nije samo relevantna glazbena činjenica, već i prostor s kojeg stižu možda najbolja i najintrigantnija izdanja. “Haze“ Irene Žilić je baš od te sorte.
Već uvodna “Moon“ pokazuje ne baš zanemariv odmak od ranijih snimki uz uspjeli iskorak prema punijem (slojevitijem) zvuku.

No bez napuštanja onih iskonskih obilježja indie lo-fi poetike sadržane, makar dijelom, u staroj maksimi “manje je više“. Jer unatoč dominantnoj (nikad agresivnoj) gitari sa zavodljivim tonom pustinjskog “twanga“, basom koji jamči toplinu zvučnoj slici te suptilnih klavijatura, ama baš ništa ne stoji na putu niti se sudara s iznimnim - i dalje “prozračnim“ i onozemaljskim - Ireninim vokalom.

Ulazak u prostor koji (više) ne trpi naljepnicu akustičarskog indie trubadurskog iskaza još je očitiji u sljedećoj “From Scratch“, koja se širi u panoramskoj zvučnoj slici (sa pseudoopernim dionicama koje lelujaju ispod Ireninog vokala) ocrtanoj i diskretno psihodeličnim tonovima melankoličnog folka, “starim ušima“ nalik melankoliji Nicka Drakea. Marko Mrakovčić se i ovaj put pokazao u studiju, donijevši u gotovo svakom broju lucidna rješenja svojih zvučnih eksperimenata savršeno sparenih s vokalom.

U “Into The Wind“ je ubačeno nešto i od aktualnih indie bandova naslonjenih na ritmičke “pumpajuće“ obrasce U2 (prisutne i u “Omegi“) dok se Irenin vokal - zahvaljujući i produkciji i odličnom aranžmanu - približio izričaju jedne Rickie Lee Jones s albuma “Pirates“. Kompliment? Naravno! To je još očitije u temi “X“ s velvetovskim gitarama kao dokaz da Irena nije pjevačica jedne role ili samo akustičarska indie chanteusse.

“Hold On“ je nova fluidna tema s pametno smišljenim rastom od akustičarskog minimalizma do punijeg zvuka podebljanog sintevima i vokalom koji vraški podsjeća na ranu Suzanne Vega. Još i više u sjajnoj “Omegi“ - zacijelo najboljem broju albuma. Lijena i pospana atmosferska “Little Daggers“ s diskretnim bubnjem i kontrabasom/basom u uvodu superioran je pak Irenin ulazak u alter-country/folk Norah Jones.

Na nju se savršeno naslanja i srodna sfumatozna laganica “Afterglow“ s atmosferom lebdeće koprenaste melankolije na tragu Cowboy Junkiesa u temama poput “Where Are You Tonight“, “Sun Come Up Its Tuesday Morning“ ili “Blue Moon“. Album zaključuje “Pioneers“ - nova sjajna fluidna balada s eteričnim vokalom a la Rickie Lee kao točka na “i“ albuma bez ijednog spornog trenutka. Šešir dolje!
