Bivši izbornik hrvatske košarkaške reprezentacije Neven Spahija (59) rekao je da se protivi dovođenju stranih igrača u nacionalne reprezentacije jer time one "gube svoj identitet", izvijestile su španjolske novine Mundo Deportivo.

- Protivim se igranju stranaca za reprezentacije. Po mom mišljenju, nema temelja za njihovo dovođenje. To je loše pravilo FIBA-e te se nikada neću složiti s njime - rekao je Spahija.

- Reprezentacije su identitet košarkaških škola, nacije, jedne kulture… - dodao je.

Spahija je od 2001. do 2005. godine bio izbornik Hrvatske koja je je prošli mjesec dala američkom razigravaču Jaleenu Devonu Smithu hrvatsko državljanstvo kako bi nastupao za nju na aktualnom Europskom prvenstvu, premda taj igrač nema nikakve veze s Hrvatskom.

- Za dovođenje stranaca imamo klubove - rekao je.

Spahija je izjavio da se nada da Srbija, koja se dosad protivila dovođenju stranaca u svoju reprezentaciju, neće promijeniti svoj stav jer bi “time izgubila dio svog identiteta”.

U Španjolskoj je ljetos polemiku izazvalo ekspresno davanje španjolskog državljanstva američkom igraču Lorenzu Brownu koji nikada nije igrao za neki španjolski klub.

- Meni je zabavno gledati kada televizijska kamera prikazuje igrače dok svira nacionalna himna. Ona prikaže stranca koji ne zna niti jezik te zemlje niti riječi himne - rekao je Spahija koji je tijekom karijere bio trener klubova poput Cibone, Maccabija, Valencije te pomoćni trener Atlanta Hawksa i Memphis Grizzliesa.

Posljednji angažman imao je u španjolskom prvoligašu Baskoniji gdje je bio trener od studenog 2021. do lipnja 2022. godine.

Bivši izbornik hrvatske košarkaške reprezentacije Neven Spahija (59) rekao je da se protivi dovođenju stranih igrača u nacionalne reprezentacije jer time one "gube svoj identitet", izvijestile su španjolske novine Mundo Deportivo.

- Protivim se igranju stranaca za reprezentacije. Po mom mišljenju, nema temelja za njihovo dovođenje. To je loše pravilo FIBA-e te se nikada neću složiti s njime - rekao je Spahija.

- Reprezentacije su identitet košarkaških škola, nacije, jedne kulture… - dodao je.

Spahija je od 2001. do 2005. godine bio izbornik Hrvatske koja je je prošli mjesec dala američkom razigravaču Jaleenu Devonu Smithu hrvatsko državljanstvo kako bi nastupao za nju na aktualnom Europskom prvenstvu, premda taj igrač nema nikakve veze s Hrvatskom.

- Za dovođenje stranaca imamo klubove - rekao je.

Spahija je izjavio da se nada da Srbija, koja se dosad protivila dovođenju stranaca u svoju reprezentaciju, neće promijeniti svoj stav jer bi “time izgubila dio svog identiteta”.

U Španjolskoj je ljetos polemiku izazvalo ekspresno davanje španjolskog državljanstva američkom igraču Lorenzu Brownu koji nikada nije igrao za neki španjolski klub.

- Meni je zabavno gledati kada televizijska kamera prikazuje igrače dok svira nacionalna himna. Ona prikaže stranca koji ne zna niti jezik te zemlje niti riječi himne - rekao je Spahija koji je tijekom karijere bio trener klubova poput Cibone, Maccabija, Valencije te pomoćni trener Atlanta Hawksa i Memphis Grizzliesa.

Posljednji angažman imao je u španjolskom prvoligašu Baskoniji gdje je bio trener od studenog 2021. do lipnja 2022. godine.

Bivši izbornik hrvatske košarkaške reprezentacije Neven Spahija (59) rekao je da se protivi dovođenju stranih igrača u nacionalne reprezentacije jer time one "gube svoj identitet", izvijestile su španjolske novine Mundo Deportivo.

- Protivim se igranju stranaca za reprezentacije. Po mom mišljenju, nema temelja za njihovo dovođenje. To je loše pravilo FIBA-e te se nikada neću složiti s njime - rekao je Spahija.

- Reprezentacije su identitet košarkaških škola, nacije, jedne kulture… - dodao je.

Spahija je od 2001. do 2005. godine bio izbornik Hrvatske koja je je prošli mjesec dala američkom razigravaču Jaleenu Devonu Smithu hrvatsko državljanstvo kako bi nastupao za nju na aktualnom Europskom prvenstvu, premda taj igrač nema nikakve veze s Hrvatskom.

- Za dovođenje stranaca imamo klubove - rekao je.

Spahija je izjavio da se nada da Srbija, koja se dosad protivila dovođenju stranaca u svoju reprezentaciju, neće promijeniti svoj stav jer bi “time izgubila dio svog identiteta”.

U Španjolskoj je ljetos polemiku izazvalo ekspresno davanje španjolskog državljanstva američkom igraču Lorenzu Brownu koji nikada nije igrao za neki španjolski klub.

- Meni je zabavno gledati kada televizijska kamera prikazuje igrače dok svira nacionalna himna. Ona prikaže stranca koji ne zna niti jezik te zemlje niti riječi himne - rekao je Spahija koji je tijekom karijere bio trener klubova poput Cibone, Maccabija, Valencije te pomoćni trener Atlanta Hawksa i Memphis Grizzliesa.

Posljednji angažman imao je u španjolskom prvoligašu Baskoniji gdje je bio trener od studenog 2021. do lipnja 2022. godine.
