Nezgoda iz Edinburgha gdje je tridesetak osoba ozlijeđeno u naginjanju istraživačkog broda na suhom doku, izazvala je veliku pažnju javnosti.
Na fotografijama koje se šire internetom može se vidjeti da se istraživački brod Petrel nagnuo na desnu stranu pod kutom od 45 stupnjeva te naslonio na pristanište. Uzrok je jaki vjetar, a do ozlijeda je došlo jer su se mnogi radnici nalazili na brodu. Svoje ekipe na mjesto događaja poslala je i obalna straža te trenutno pomažu policiji u ovom incidentu. Tvrtka Dales Marine Services koja upravlja suhim dokom je bez komentara.
Riječ je o brodu kojeg je kupio i opremio pokojni suosnivač Microsofta milijarder Paul Allen, no sada je u vlasništvu američke mornarice koja ga je kupila u rujnu prošle godine.

Brod je porinut 2002. godine, a njegova primarna misija je istraživanje povijesno značajnih brodskih olupina na "izazovnim dubinama i uvjetima". Ime je dobio po morskoj ptici poznatoj po svojoj sposobnosti klizanja iznad površine vode.
Allen je bio poznat po svojoj strasti prema vojnoj povijesti, te je izdašno financirao istraživanja ovog broda za otkrivanje brodoloma s različitih mjesta bitaka.
Kako piše edinburghlive.co.uk, RV Petrel postigao je veliki uspjeh na ovom području posljednjih godina, otkrivši olupine nevjerojatnih 30 potopljenih ratnih brodova, uključujući USS Indianapolis, brod koji je isporučio prve komponente atomske bombe u bazu na otoku Tinian 1945., i nosač zrakoplova USS Hornet, koji je odigrao ključnu ulogu za SAD nakon japanskog napada na Pearl Harbor.
U kolovozu 2015. Ministarstvo obrane Ujedinjenog Kraljevstva pohvalilo je Petrelov tim nakon što je istraživački brod odigrao vitalnu ulogu u izvlačenju zvona HMS Hooda. Zvono je sljedećeg svibnja koristila Princess Royal kako bi obilježila 75. godišnjicu potonuća slavnog bojnog krstaša 1941., što je i dalje najveći gubitak života Kraljevske mornarice (1415) na jednom brodu.
U listopadu 2019. posada Petrela bila je zaslužna za otkriće još jednog broda izgubljenog tijekom Drugog svjetskog rata: razarača klase Fletcher USS Johnston. Razasuto više od 20 000 stopa ispod Filipinskog mora, to je najdublje otkriće brodoloma do danas. Usporedbe radi, olupina RMS Titanica leži na dubini od 12.600 stopa ispod sjevernog Atlantika.

Dugačak popis brodskih velikih otkrića u području pomorske arheologije naveo je neke da RV Petrel proglase jednim od najvažnijih istraživačkih brodova u povijesti, uz Calypso Jacquea Cousteaua i legendarni Endeavour kapetana Cooka.
Petrel je usidren u Leithu od 3. rujna 2020. gdje je zapeo zbog COVID-a kasnije. Plan je bio da se vrati u službu.
Nakon prevrtanja prije nekoliko dana u Leithovom Imperial Docku, najvećem škotskom doku, šteta nije poznata, kao što se ne zna što to znači za budućnost broda Petrel.

Nezgoda iz Edinburgha gdje je tridesetak osoba ozlijeđeno u naginjanju istraživačkog broda na suhom doku, izazvala je veliku pažnju javnosti.
Na fotografijama koje se šire internetom može se vidjeti da se istraživački brod Petrel nagnuo na desnu stranu pod kutom od 45 stupnjeva te naslonio na pristanište. Uzrok je jaki vjetar, a do ozlijeda je došlo jer su se mnogi radnici nalazili na brodu. Svoje ekipe na mjesto događaja poslala je i obalna straža te trenutno pomažu policiji u ovom incidentu. Tvrtka Dales Marine Services koja upravlja suhim dokom je bez komentara.
Riječ je o brodu kojeg je kupio i opremio pokojni suosnivač Microsofta milijarder Paul Allen, no sada je u vlasništvu američke mornarice koja ga je kupila u rujnu prošle godine.

Brod je porinut 2002. godine, a njegova primarna misija je istraživanje povijesno značajnih brodskih olupina na "izazovnim dubinama i uvjetima". Ime je dobio po morskoj ptici poznatoj po svojoj sposobnosti klizanja iznad površine vode.
Allen je bio poznat po svojoj strasti prema vojnoj povijesti, te je izdašno financirao istraživanja ovog broda za otkrivanje brodoloma s različitih mjesta bitaka.
Kako piše edinburghlive.co.uk, RV Petrel postigao je veliki uspjeh na ovom području posljednjih godina, otkrivši olupine nevjerojatnih 30 potopljenih ratnih brodova, uključujući USS Indianapolis, brod koji je isporučio prve komponente atomske bombe u bazu na otoku Tinian 1945., i nosač zrakoplova USS Hornet, koji je odigrao ključnu ulogu za SAD nakon japanskog napada na Pearl Harbor.
U kolovozu 2015. Ministarstvo obrane Ujedinjenog Kraljevstva pohvalilo je Petrelov tim nakon što je istraživački brod odigrao vitalnu ulogu u izvlačenju zvona HMS Hooda. Zvono je sljedećeg svibnja koristila Princess Royal kako bi obilježila 75. godišnjicu potonuća slavnog bojnog krstaša 1941., što je i dalje najveći gubitak života Kraljevske mornarice (1415) na jednom brodu.
U listopadu 2019. posada Petrela bila je zaslužna za otkriće još jednog broda izgubljenog tijekom Drugog svjetskog rata: razarača klase Fletcher USS Johnston. Razasuto više od 20 000 stopa ispod Filipinskog mora, to je najdublje otkriće brodoloma do danas. Usporedbe radi, olupina RMS Titanica leži na dubini od 12.600 stopa ispod sjevernog Atlantika.

Dugačak popis brodskih velikih otkrića u području pomorske arheologije naveo je neke da RV Petrel proglase jednim od najvažnijih istraživačkih brodova u povijesti, uz Calypso Jacquea Cousteaua i legendarni Endeavour kapetana Cooka.
Petrel je usidren u Leithu od 3. rujna 2020. gdje je zapeo zbog COVID-a kasnije. Plan je bio da se vrati u službu.
Nakon prevrtanja prije nekoliko dana u Leithovom Imperial Docku, najvećem škotskom doku, šteta nije poznata, kao što se ne zna što to znači za budućnost broda Petrel.
