Morski biolozi istražuju misterioznu kožnu bolest koja pogađa podvodne grebene i bjelovrhe grebenske morske pse u Maleziji, a rana izvješća ukazuju na to da je za pojavu ove bolesti odgovoran porast temperature mora. 

Nazvani po prepoznatljivim bijelim vrhovima peraja, ovi grebenski morski psi obično se danju odmaraju blizu grebena i atrakcija su za ronioce. Noću postaju aktivni u lovu na sitnu ribu i ostale morske životinje.

Tijekom jednog od zarona podvodni fotograf je blizu otoka Bornea snimio primjerak bjelovrhog morskog pasa, a na slikama koje je još u travnju objavio na društvenim mrežama vide se neuobičajene mrlje i lezije u predijelu glave. 

Nedugo nakon objave, ronioci su oko otoka Sipadan snimili još fotografija, alarmiravši stručnjake s državnih sveučilišta i iz vladinih grupa za zaštitu flore i faune koji su zaključili da je riječ o kožnoj bolesti. 

Nastojeći otkriti uzrok bolesti tim je otkrio da je temperatura morske površine oko Sipadana u svibnju porasla na 29,5 Celzijevih stupnjeva, što je za stupanj više nego 1985. godine.

"Gotovo sigurno možemo povezati zagrijavanje površine oceana i pojavu kožne bolesti među morskim psima u vodama oko Sipadana", rekao je Davies Austin Spiji, morski biolog iz neprofitne skupine za zaštitu koraljnih grebena Reef Guardian.

Isključio je ljudski faktor, pojasnivši da je Sipadan zaštićeno morsko dobro u kojemu je ribolov strogo zabranjen, a u blizini nema ni naselja ni bilo kakvog industrijskog postrojenja. 

Izvješća o pojavi ove bolesti poklapaju se s podacima o izbjeljivanju koralja u tom području, smatra Mohamed Din, profesor na Veterinarskom fakultetu Putra Malaysia koji se bavi morskom florom i faunom.

Din dodaje da se ne može zanemariti činjenica da se u oceanima događaju razne promjene zbog porasta temperature, no dodaje da treba obaviti daljnje potpune znanstvene studije.

U svibnju su članovi istraživačkog tima u suradnji s roniocima pokušali, no nisu uspjeli uhvatiti neke primjerke morskih pasa da bi osigurali uzorke za testiranja, rekla je Mabel Manjaji-Matsumoto, viša predavačica s Instituta za morska istraživanja na Sveučilištu Malaysia Sabah.

"Uspijemo li doći do uzoraka tkiva morskih pasa, sigurno ćemo barem moći otkriti patogeni uzrok lezija", rekla je Manjaji-Matsumoto, dodajući da tim planira još jedan pokušaj u srpnju.

Morski biolozi istražuju misterioznu kožnu bolest koja pogađa podvodne grebene i bjelovrhe grebenske morske pse u Maleziji, a rana izvješća ukazuju na to da je za pojavu ove bolesti odgovoran porast temperature mora. 

Nazvani po prepoznatljivim bijelim vrhovima peraja, ovi grebenski morski psi obično se danju odmaraju blizu grebena i atrakcija su za ronioce. Noću postaju aktivni u lovu na sitnu ribu i ostale morske životinje.

Tijekom jednog od zarona podvodni fotograf je blizu otoka Bornea snimio primjerak bjelovrhog morskog pasa, a na slikama koje je još u travnju objavio na društvenim mrežama vide se neuobičajene mrlje i lezije u predijelu glave. 

Nedugo nakon objave, ronioci su oko otoka Sipadan snimili još fotografija, alarmiravši stručnjake s državnih sveučilišta i iz vladinih grupa za zaštitu flore i faune koji su zaključili da je riječ o kožnoj bolesti. 

Nastojeći otkriti uzrok bolesti tim je otkrio da je temperatura morske površine oko Sipadana u svibnju porasla na 29,5 Celzijevih stupnjeva, što je za stupanj više nego 1985. godine.

"Gotovo sigurno možemo povezati zagrijavanje površine oceana i pojavu kožne bolesti među morskim psima u vodama oko Sipadana", rekao je Davies Austin Spiji, morski biolog iz neprofitne skupine za zaštitu koraljnih grebena Reef Guardian.

Isključio je ljudski faktor, pojasnivši da je Sipadan zaštićeno morsko dobro u kojemu je ribolov strogo zabranjen, a u blizini nema ni naselja ni bilo kakvog industrijskog postrojenja. 

Izvješća o pojavi ove bolesti poklapaju se s podacima o izbjeljivanju koralja u tom području, smatra Mohamed Din, profesor na Veterinarskom fakultetu Putra Malaysia koji se bavi morskom florom i faunom.

Din dodaje da se ne može zanemariti činjenica da se u oceanima događaju razne promjene zbog porasta temperature, no dodaje da treba obaviti daljnje potpune znanstvene studije.

U svibnju su članovi istraživačkog tima u suradnji s roniocima pokušali, no nisu uspjeli uhvatiti neke primjerke morskih pasa da bi osigurali uzorke za testiranja, rekla je Mabel Manjaji-Matsumoto, viša predavačica s Instituta za morska istraživanja na Sveučilištu Malaysia Sabah.

"Uspijemo li doći do uzoraka tkiva morskih pasa, sigurno ćemo barem moći otkriti patogeni uzrok lezija", rekla je Manjaji-Matsumoto, dodajući da tim planira još jedan pokušaj u srpnju.
