Europska komisija odobrila je novi antibiotik dizajniran protiv bakterijske otpornosti, jednog od najvećih javnozdravstvenih problema u EU. Antibiotik Emblaveo, koji je razvio američki farmaceutski div Pfizer, može se koristiti za liječenje upala pluća, upala mokraćnog sustava kao i infekcija uzrokovanih određenim vrstama bakterija otpornih na lijekove.

- Emblaveo će doista napraviti razliku. To je lijek koji je aktivan protiv otpornih patogena što nam daje alat za liječenje vrste infekcije za koju sada nemamo dobre mogućnosti - rekao je za Financial Times Jay Purdy, Pfizerov potpredsjednik za globalna medicinska pitanja.

Europska agencija za lijekove procjenjuje kako infekcije uzrokovane bakterijama otpornim na više antibiotika svake godine u EU uzrokuju oko 35.000 smrti. Nadalje, Svjetska zdravstvena organizacija (WHO) identificirala je antimikrobnu rezistenciju (AMR) kao jednu od 10 najvećih globalnih prijetnji javnom zdravlju odgovornu za 4,9 milijuna smrti godišnje.

Emblaveo je antibiotik koji kombinira dvije aktivne supstance, a namijenjen je borbi protiv tzv. Gram-negativnih bakterija. To je drugi antibiotik koji je EU odobrila ove godine, nakon što je prošli mjesec odobren Exblifep, njemačke tvrtke Allecra Therapeutics, koji je također namijenjen za komplicirane infekcije urinarnog trakta uzrokovane Gram-negativnim bakterijama.

Antibiotici su desetljećima bili čovjekovo moćno oružje u borbi s bakterijskim infekcijama. Iako su tijekom vremena bakterije razvijale otpornost na njih, dugo se smatralo da neće biti problem jer će farmaceutska industrija stalno proizvoditi nove antibiotike. No, danas znamo da to nije tako jer je sve veći broj bakterija otpornih na antibiotike. Istodobno, na tržištu je sve manje novih i učinkovitih antibiotika. Među razlozima koji dovode do neučinkovitosti antibiotika svakako je njihova prevelika uporaba, zbog čega bakterije razvijaju otpornost.

Diljem svijeta više od polovice potrošenih antibiotika odlazi na liječenje i uzgoj životinja. Nadalje, antibiotici se često troše bespotrebno, primjerice za infekcije dišnih putova koje su najčešće uzrokovane virusima. To je pogrešno jer antibiotici ne pomažu kod virusnih infekcija, ali potiču razvoj mutanata među bakterijama koje prirodno nastanjuju ljudsko tijelo i okoliš. Otpornost na antibiotike se razvija kada određena bakterija mutira i postane u tolikoj mjeri tvrdokorna, odnosno otporna na sve antibiotike koji se koriste u liječenju neke zaraze da je nijedan od njih ne uspijeva učinkovito uništiti. Takve bakterije kolokvijalno nazivamo superbakterijama.

Antimikrobna rezistencija je bila prioritet zdravstvene politike tijekom ovog mandata Europske komisije. Strategija EU-a je pristup "Jedno zdravlje" koji prepoznaje da su zdravlje ljudi, životinja i okoliš povezani te da borba protiv AMR-a zahtijeva koordinirane napore u ova tri područja. Preporukom Vijeća utvrđeni su konkretni ciljevi na razini EU-a za potrošnju antimikrobnih sredstava i otpornost u ljudskom zdravlju, uključujući smanjenje ukupne potrošnje antibiotika kod ljudi za 20 posto do 2030. godine.

Europska komisija odobrila je novi antibiotik dizajniran protiv bakterijske otpornosti, jednog od najvećih javnozdravstvenih problema u EU. Antibiotik Emblaveo, koji je razvio američki farmaceutski div Pfizer, može se koristiti za liječenje upala pluća, upala mokraćnog sustava kao i infekcija uzrokovanih određenim vrstama bakterija otpornih na lijekove.

- Emblaveo će doista napraviti razliku. To je lijek koji je aktivan protiv otpornih patogena što nam daje alat za liječenje vrste infekcije za koju sada nemamo dobre mogućnosti - rekao je za Financial Times Jay Purdy, Pfizerov potpredsjednik za globalna medicinska pitanja.

Europska agencija za lijekove procjenjuje kako infekcije uzrokovane bakterijama otpornim na više antibiotika svake godine u EU uzrokuju oko 35.000 smrti. Nadalje, Svjetska zdravstvena organizacija (WHO) identificirala je antimikrobnu rezistenciju (AMR) kao jednu od 10 najvećih globalnih prijetnji javnom zdravlju odgovornu za 4,9 milijuna smrti godišnje.

Emblaveo je antibiotik koji kombinira dvije aktivne supstance, a namijenjen je borbi protiv tzv. Gram-negativnih bakterija. To je drugi antibiotik koji je EU odobrila ove godine, nakon što je prošli mjesec odobren Exblifep, njemačke tvrtke Allecra Therapeutics, koji je također namijenjen za komplicirane infekcije urinarnog trakta uzrokovane Gram-negativnim bakterijama.

Antibiotici su desetljećima bili čovjekovo moćno oružje u borbi s bakterijskim infekcijama. Iako su tijekom vremena bakterije razvijale otpornost na njih, dugo se smatralo da neće biti problem jer će farmaceutska industrija stalno proizvoditi nove antibiotike. No, danas znamo da to nije tako jer je sve veći broj bakterija otpornih na antibiotike. Istodobno, na tržištu je sve manje novih i učinkovitih antibiotika. Među razlozima koji dovode do neučinkovitosti antibiotika svakako je njihova prevelika uporaba, zbog čega bakterije razvijaju otpornost.

Diljem svijeta više od polovice potrošenih antibiotika odlazi na liječenje i uzgoj životinja. Nadalje, antibiotici se često troše bespotrebno, primjerice za infekcije dišnih putova koje su najčešće uzrokovane virusima. To je pogrešno jer antibiotici ne pomažu kod virusnih infekcija, ali potiču razvoj mutanata među bakterijama koje prirodno nastanjuju ljudsko tijelo i okoliš. Otpornost na antibiotike se razvija kada određena bakterija mutira i postane u tolikoj mjeri tvrdokorna, odnosno otporna na sve antibiotike koji se koriste u liječenju neke zaraze da je nijedan od njih ne uspijeva učinkovito uništiti. Takve bakterije kolokvijalno nazivamo superbakterijama.

Antimikrobna rezistencija je bila prioritet zdravstvene politike tijekom ovog mandata Europske komisije. Strategija EU-a je pristup "Jedno zdravlje" koji prepoznaje da su zdravlje ljudi, životinja i okoliš povezani te da borba protiv AMR-a zahtijeva koordinirane napore u ova tri područja. Preporukom Vijeća utvrđeni su konkretni ciljevi na razini EU-a za potrošnju antimikrobnih sredstava i otpornost u ljudskom zdravlju, uključujući smanjenje ukupne potrošnje antibiotika kod ljudi za 20 posto do 2030. godine.

Europska komisija odobrila je novi antibiotik dizajniran protiv bakterijske otpornosti, jednog od najvećih javnozdravstvenih problema u EU. Antibiotik Emblaveo, koji je razvio američki farmaceutski div Pfizer, može se koristiti za liječenje upala pluća, upala mokraćnog sustava kao i infekcija uzrokovanih određenim vrstama bakterija otpornih na lijekove.

- Emblaveo će doista napraviti razliku. To je lijek koji je aktivan protiv otpornih patogena što nam daje alat za liječenje vrste infekcije za koju sada nemamo dobre mogućnosti - rekao je za Financial Times Jay Purdy, Pfizerov potpredsjednik za globalna medicinska pitanja.

Europska agencija za lijekove procjenjuje kako infekcije uzrokovane bakterijama otpornim na više antibiotika svake godine u EU uzrokuju oko 35.000 smrti. Nadalje, Svjetska zdravstvena organizacija (WHO) identificirala je antimikrobnu rezistenciju (AMR) kao jednu od 10 najvećih globalnih prijetnji javnom zdravlju odgovornu za 4,9 milijuna smrti godišnje.

Emblaveo je antibiotik koji kombinira dvije aktivne supstance, a namijenjen je borbi protiv tzv. Gram-negativnih bakterija. To je drugi antibiotik koji je EU odobrila ove godine, nakon što je prošli mjesec odobren Exblifep, njemačke tvrtke Allecra Therapeutics, koji je također namijenjen za komplicirane infekcije urinarnog trakta uzrokovane Gram-negativnim bakterijama.
